I'm inclined to agree witht the argument that JRS needs a yesr in the Championship playing 90 minutes week in week out to consolidate his development. That's not a setback for him or a lack of belief; the trajectory would be close enough to - for instance - Conor Gallagher's. Having said that, once he'd settled on Monday night - which understandably took time - he started to show signs of more than 'not looking out of place'. If neither Olise nor Franca are likely to be in contention before October, JRS wouldn't be missing too much football if he didn't go on loan till January; that of course is assuming he'd play fairly regularly till Olise's return. Although we didn't see enough against Arsenal to feel confident of that, I think we saw enough to suppose it's far from impossible. A more extended outing against Brentford could give a clearer picture while still giving time to arrange a loan if that still looked the best option. If on the other hand he did well, the club get a more balanced attack for the next few games and transfer emphasis can go on a desperately needed no. 9 rather than an extra wide player. JRS gets some invaluable experience and maybe proves he already belongs in Palace's first team squad. Could be win win and well worth a longer look in my opinion.

I'm expecting to see him start against Plymouth and depending on his performance and the result he may stay or go on loan. If we get though he may stay to play next round.

Our squad is wafer thin with the injuries we have. It would be crazy to loan players out and not be able to fill the bench.

The thing is, I can't see him walking into a good championship side, and I can see him struggling in a bad one.

While he has the skills for the former, I doubt he will be head and shoulders above what they have. In the latter, does he have the necessary physicality in a side playing back-foot football?

As such, I think his development is best served by being on the fringe of the first team and given minutes at carefully selected times.

Or we sell him to a good championship side with a buyback. They would need to be invested in his success.

If the rumours are to be believed there are/were a host of Championship teams wanting to take him on loan including, Leicester, Ipswich and Blackburn. In other words, this isn't a case of Palace trying to find a Championship club willing to take him but Championship clubs queueing up for his services which suggests to me he would be wanted for the starting XI rather than as a bench warmer.

I think much depends on the rest of the window.

If we are still as light as we are now, he should probably stay and will get some game time, but if we sign another wide man, a season in the champs is probably best

Totally agree. He plays in a wide attacking position, exactly the area we are very short of options.

I don't think he's ready to be a regular Prem starter (yet) but he could be a good option from the bench.

ATM a loan in Jan seems the most logical option for both the club and the player.

I don't doubt many clubs will take him. The issue is which will play him and allow him to showcase his talent and develop.

Madness to loan him out, both JRS and Ahamada seemed pretty confident when they came on. Add to that, we are short of offensive players, so yes, keep them both and give them time on the pitch.

Agree.
Unless we get someone else in his position, we keep him, at least til Jan. Til Olise is back, we only have Ayew for that position, so JRS some coming on as a reqular sub and bleeding him in that way is my preference.

I've never been completed sold on the idea you need to prove yourself in the champ first.. it's such a different footballing challenge to The Prem, the right player could struggle there whilst suiting the higher technical style of the PL.
horses for courses innit.

Schlupp does not offer enough going forward so why don't we just start JRS on the right against Brentford and put Ayew on the left. If he grabs his chance then everyone's a winner, if not we might have a better idea of where his development is at. If the club is trying to bring another winger in then fine, but if not then we probably need to know if JRS is ready to play a more significant role. Roy is not normally known for being risk averse though so this seems unlikely.

What happened to the younger players fighting for their position. Why not keep him and let him win his place and then if MO leaves us over the next 24 months he's a ready made replacement or not. If not he isn't good enough and we buy new with MO's money.

What would happen to him when Olise is back and takes his place in the team?

His development is better served in a good Championship team.

Agree with you that this is the obvious solution that is unlikely to be taken up. An outing against Plymouth isn't going to tell what he is like against PL opposition and then the window is shut

Schlupp has shown nothing so far this season
