I thought Trump might be referring to some section of society he doesn't like, maybe Muslims or immigrants or something but still don't know - or particularly care. It’s not unconscious bias at all. It’s what everyone who has any kind of awareness of Trump knows is meant. It is a reference to illegal migrants. If you believe that the Western democracy you live in is so bad then try to do something to improve it. There are many who believe, including me, that ours is no longer fit for purpose and needs reform. I don’t though believe that all those who work within it are scheming rascals whose only motivation is self interest. I think there are many well intentioned folk with a genuine desire to serve the public interest. It’s only too far gone if we stop trying to make it better.

Since Hawaii voted Democrat by a huge majority at the last election this fool wittering on about his cat to people who've had their lives and communities ravaged or lost friends/family members might well have an effect on the election whether the prospective candidates are a gaolbird or a daft old duffer.

That you fail to recognise that the left are using a quote by another Republican in one of their memes, but think they have invented it themselves, only proves how out of touch with what is actually happening you seem to be. Trump, his support base, plus those who instinctively hate Biden and the Democrats, exist in their own bubble and aren’t aware of what is happening outside it. What happened at the midterms ought to have been a lesson, but it appears not to have been learned.

Him being there and offering Federal support will only firm up the support for the Democrats.

This is true and the reason why some of the more objective and thoughtful Republicans are thinking that selecting someone other than Trump is the only way they can win in 2024. I agree and really hope that happens. My objections are not to responsible Republican policies but to the lying, self serving, corrupt populism from someone who refused to accept the consequences of democracy. Everyone, whatever their personal political outlook, should be united in their condemnation of that.
