Some here seem to believe Trump’s claims, as obviously his sycophantic base do, that the indictments he faces and the timing of the court cases, are all down to his political opponents.

This is so obviously untrue I find it amazing that anyone in the uk buys into such absurdity.

If he hadn’t done anything wrong then the the grand juries would not have allowed the cases to proceed. They have decided there are cases to answer, not any politician.

Once decided I am relieved to see the absence of political influence, rather than any evidence of it.

He is being treated just as anyone else facing criminal charges would be. The fact that he is an ex President and a candidate for the next Presidential election must not be allowed to make the slightest difference to that. The law must apply fairly and equally to all.

So should special consideration be given to the potential difficulties he might face with his campaign and the timing of the cases adjusted to avoid them this would be politics influencing justice.

So setting a March 4th date for the beginning of the trial about the attempt to overturn the 2020 election and ignoring anything else, like the “Super Tuesday” primaries, is evidence of a lack of political influence, not of it.

It happens all the time in the US and over here. Defendants routinely ask for delays / change of venue etc. and are mostly granted so it smacks of politicking.

Just look at the various high profile celebrity cases over the years most of them had their dates changed to suit the defendants.

I guess it depends on the circumstances and whether serious harm could be done, either by granting, or refusing, a delay. That will be for the Judge to determine.

Is campaigning actually a right, or even really necessary?

Nah it's just democracy who needs it.

Trump's 'J6th' trial in Washington D.C. is set for March 4, 2024, one day before 'Super Tuesday' primaries and caucuses.

So transparent they don't even try to hide it anymore.

It is perfect. To perfect almost.

Beginning to wonder if this all might be a trap? Like they are trying to provoke something? Possibly by way of using it as an excuse to call off the election? Not sure. Could just be me being me.

But surely these people cannot really be that stupid if they think this is going to damage Trumps chances? It is guaranteeing him the nomination.

It's the voting that's the democracy. How people get to make their decisions in 2023 surely doesn't depend on a travelling circus show where the same flags are waved, the same speeches made and hero worship is the main reason for attending?

Is someone doing that more important than seeing the rule of law apply to everyone in a timely manner?

I don't believe that there is any political influence being exerted over the timing. I do though believe Trump will be nominated and that the Democrats want that to happen. I think they know that if they faced anyone else they would be at greater risk. Trump might remain popular with his base but it seems highly unlikely to me that he would be able to retake the Presidency. He lost in 2020, is much more damaged now and will be even more so by November 2024. Remember what happened at the mid-terms. They ought to have been a lesson for the Republicans. Some at the top have learned it, but not enough of those who vote in the primaries.

So the next President of the USA will be a Democrat. Who that will be is another question entirely.

When we use generalisations we only describe the stereotype. In practice we understand that any group itself is comprised of a right/centre/left.

Be it the DR, Tories, Labour or the Democrats the truism holds for all of them.

Within the Democrats there will be voices wholly against what is happening for various reasons from national cohesion to high stakes risk regarding Trump. However, the fact of the matter is that the Democratic hatred for Trump is overwhelming and all those voices are beaten down....much as the voices against Trump in the GOP are beaten down.

As an aside we are globally seeing the left use the legal system towards political ends as that institution....like all the others they infected...is full to the brim with their idealists much more than it is with the right.

The people who are prosecuting Trump have all to gain and little to lose if it goes wrong......that's the main factor here.

Obviously the top movers in the Democrat party could stop it if they wanted....just as they stopped the riots once they got elected. However, they have calculated that they can beat Trump and are going with the tactic of convincing the independents that these....what will be trumped up legal convictions will ensure that they won't vote for him.

America is a banana republic with air conditioning.

As I said years ago, its split is inevitable.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say something here. Trump now , goodbye. Treatment of Trump, a younger generation, not even 20 years away. No one is so blind that they cannot see. I mean no one. This isn't funny and certainly not democratic. Iay as well vote for my anus as to believe even a part of the current narrative. I truly believe Democratic people, who have any modicum of intelligence, can see it too.

It's not just Trump.

The Democratic left infrastructure go after anyone who helps him or backs him. They use the legal system and every other system along with public pressure to exact a cost....often fiscal upon anyone officially who involves themselves officially with Trump.

This isn't accidental.

It's designed to limit the number of people willing to involve themselves and so give the lie that he isn't supported.

Many people shrug their shoulders and admit that they can't afford it or just don't want the persecution involved in helping Trump.....After Trump this tactic will be used against the GOP generally as it's the direction of travel.

None of it is leading anywhere good....but people predicted this long ago as US politics became increasingly ideological and tribal.

Trump hasn't helped himself by not batting for these people and by making enemies within his own side that in reality is just self harming. However, the Democratic TDS is so strong that all that truth will be cast aside to protect him against the ideologs looking to take him down.

Just wondering,...would this break-up be a 'Banana Split' ?

About as likely as any of the rest of the ideas being accurate.

Anyone, Trump included, who faces charges does so because there is a case to answer. One for which they have every opportunity to answer and defend. The innocent have nothing to fear.

The law applies equally to all, or certainly should do although only the wealthy can employ the top lawyers with the ability to find routes through it.
