For me the question of Richards is always, or only, his fitness. He’s a far better footballer than I even expected him to be when he first arrived, came from Bayern so no fool but also seems a top character. I’m grateful he’s ours and and of course that he stays fit.

Sorry Nick, he has only been injured with CPFC once

Why can't Richards play right back? Surely better than Clyne whilst Ward is out.

He didn't look good when he got an opportunity at RB last season but I wouldn't be against him getting another shot at him. I really like what I've seen of him but I do think he's more suited to playing centrally.

he has now played briefly at full back and DM and it appears CB is his only 'true' position.

Having said that om Sat in the last minute he got turned on the edge of the box far too easily allowing the Forest guy to bend in a good shot, which luckily Sam pushed away.
A decent 3rd choice CB, and he may become more if Guehi or Andersen bids come in.

I’d love to see him get a run in the team, simply because I think from his brief appearances so far since we signed him he’s being very overrated by some people. I’ve not been overly impressed to be honest. But I’d love to be proved wrong by seeing him get a decent run of games.

Really mmmmm his pace and tackling has been very good when he has played , Anderson , Guehi have made bad mistakes as well as being turned , so dont see what your seeing , defenders do make mistakes in matchs if under pressure which we was at the time , but CB is his better position which he said himself in a interview , so its hard for him to get a long run with current 2 CB

Marking and positional sense not so good though, that’s what I’m seeing. Our otherwise solid defence has let in six goals in two games with him at the back

The Villa game was lost to that pen which i dont think it was , and the cup game was a make shift team , until then he looked quick and solid in the games he played last season made lots of good tackles , so think your over critical of him as i said both our CB have made bad errors in positioning and marking ,

I'm also not seeing any obvious positional limitations. He seams composed and if anything more of a 'defender' than our starting CBs.

Worth giving him a go perhaps:

Ward - Injured
Ferguson - Injured
Clyne - Not what he once was
Wan Bisaka - Sold
New incoming right back - Not required by anyone connected with the club other than the fans it seems.

I agree it wasn’t a penalty, but he was caught the wrong side of Watkins, hence having to make the last ditch tackle, he was lucky with the VAR dissallowed goal, he let the ball drop over his head. Not sure where he was going for Garnacho’s goal at old Trafford.
We just seem to look all over the place with him at the back at times, maybe it is harsh, because he doesn’t play much and like you say it would’ve been hard to impress in that team in the league cup, but a good tackle and a turn off pace every now and then doesn’t hide his limitations.
But I know it’s tough hardly playing, so If he gets a run in the team I hope he sharpens up and proves me wrong that he’s not up to this level

Am I crazy, or was he named Player of the Month in January?

Yes, he's more experienced in the center than at RB and, yes, opponents have scored when he's playing. But opponents have scored pretty regularly against us, except for this recent run of clean sheets – and for that I credit Johnstone's superb goal-keeping as much our defensive work.
