Richards isn't a right back, he showed that last season especially at wolves

He played occasionally at RB at Bayern Munich, I think the point being made is he would be an upgrade on Wardy. Unfortunately old Father Time has caught up with him!

No shock, so does everybody else who gets in a foot race with him.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

As soon as Richards play RB & we lose, posters on here will slag him off just like they do with any player following any defeat.

IF we want to get Richards in the side while removing Ward from it the obvious fix for me would to move Andersen to RB with Richards in the middle

And we still need a striker

I wonder if they think Danny Imray will take this position - every time I watch him, he looks solid, fast, good tackler, positional sense and gets forward to send in some decent crosses - now I thinkl about it, he can't be any worse that Wardy is at the moment

I thought he played there for Arsenal a few times before he left? Can’t be that woeful.

In any instance, I think there was a general consensus of ‘good’ when AWB came in, as we needed a RB to replace Ward then. Several years later, we’re stuck in the same situation.

Seems bizarre we spent all our money on a player Hodgson obviously does not think a great deal about and a GK who got injured pretty quickly when we obviously needed enforcement elsewhere.

The keeper story is getting dull now.

Keeper 1 stays fit and new keeper 2 gets injured he was a waste of money.

Change scenario. Our keeper 1 gets injured, keeper 2 seems an inspired buy. Its just circumstances.

On strikers we buy within our means. Sorry but what we want we can't afford. There was apparently a deal struck with the PSG player and that may materialise in January??

The issue with full backs is a cock up. Whatever Ryan Hall at LB had to be paid we should have paid. Newcastle stumped up and he just warms their bench. RB is even more critical. I don't see that improving till the summer.

Rb, Lb and striker are stopping us from pushing on a bit I think.
Ward too slow, Mitchell just useless, Mateta one of the worst strikers Ive ever seen, Edouard technically decent but everything else useless, Clyne worse than Ward but quicker.
I think those players mentioned would only be average in the Championship too, why they haven't been upgraded in all this time is a mystery.

And left wing

My thoughts exactly. The full back position has never been more prevalent than in the modern game. This together with a mobile striker would transform us.

Regarding the keeper situation, even the top teams often get a near retired keeper in as back up. I heard it said that Forest didn’t sign Henderson as they were concerned about his ability to keep fit and you have to wonder why we splashed cash on him when it could and perhaps should have been spent elsewhere? I can’t see any situation where having two similarly rated keepers is preferable to filling holes in the first team. I also don’t think it’s an impossible situation to get a half decent keeper in on the cheap as back up to your first choice.

I think most palace fans would agree that LW, ST and full backs were priorities for us. An untried youngster and a young, promising no.2 keeper would draw praise if we plugged obvious gaps in the first XI however seems odd especially when we look so limited with a couple of injuries.

It’s not a rant from me, I’m just merely making an observation. My guess would be that there was a gamble we’d be fine this season and the two signings were outlined as potential for real ROI. This may still be the case. I’d also guess it is a similar story looking at other positions (failed transfers). Ward is a real concern though, both for his current liability and the chagrin for potentially tainting if not ruining the great reputation he has built. If I were an opposition manager, I’d be targeting him as much as possible, as a real weak link, and it looks as though enough have clocked this.

I sincerely hope there is something planned for January. If our luck is on the short side it may be absolutely necessary, but let’s hope not.
