It's hard to know who he'll have available next season. Our four best players (Guehi, Doucoure, Eze, Olise) are all injured and on longterm contracts. If they don't play much more this year then big clubs might wait a year. Or they might not.

But whatever happens with them, it seems that Glasner is committed to 3-4-2-1 and a high press. Some thoughts and questions about the squad:
- Nunoz seems ideal for this approach. Maybe Imray also. Ward, Clyne, Mitchell less so.
- So what will Glasner do on the left? Can he get Mitchell or Schlupp to do a job at LWB?
- If we play three at the back we will need another CB even if Guehi stays. I would not be surprised in Ward is kept on another year as a backup RCB.
- Doucoure, Wharton, Lerma, Ozoh is strong competition for two spots in the centre of the field.
- The front three is very unclear at the moment. (1) We don't know if Olise and Eze will stay. (2) We don't know how our attackers will do playing a high press: it's very different to the current approach! Maybe this is the place we will look to strengthen at the end of the season?

Why will we need another CB? We have Andersen, Guehi, Holding, Tompkins, Richards & Ward(if necessary). Isn't that enough?

With the greatest of respect to the players concerned, there would a sense of unease amongst our supporters if Holding and Tomkins were selected to start.Apropos Ward I don't believe he has played as a central defender for many a year.

Glasner I would imagine is already on the case. With Pogatetz his no. 2 and Dougie he will have enough knowledge to step in for Everton.
I am expecting an announcement today or latest tomorrow.
Roy is evidently stable and for sure he must already know what is happening and his time is up at Palace.
Very good news for Roy’s health. I hope he takes a long rest and slides gracefully into retirement from active management.

Why would Holding cause unease? He's experienced at this level and nothing to suggest he's not up to it.

Tomkins I'd agree.

Tomkins I'd agree.

His performances in his latter days at Arsenal drew criticism and he was not impressive at all.
I believe it was Roy Keane who commented that Holding is short of pace, gets too close to attackers and can get exposed on the turn.

I assume Tomkins will leave. His contract is up this summer; he's 34; he is below the required quality; and 3-4-2-1 needs ball-playing CBs and that was never his strength anyway.

That leaves probably Anderson, Guehi, Richards, Holding, Ward. The squad should have one backup per position in any case.

But also: if a signing was made that would either upgrade the quality, or replace Guehi.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The last manager that tried playing a system the players were not familiar with lasted 8 games . Munoz is probably the only player that would be comfortable with it and we haven't even seen enough of him to be sure . Schulpp played the left sided role for Leicester but that was years ago , he doesn't appear to be mobile enough for that role anymore . And as you say ,pressing who with ?

This is an end of season appointment not one that HAS to hit the ground running

It will be interesting if nothing else

And we still need a striker

Glasner has achieved a hell of a lot more as a coach than FDB ever did - I don’t think you can compare them too closely just because they’re both vaguely ‘progressive’ managers. A better coach is going to be much better at getting his ideas across and improving the team.

I’d also highlight that FDB was trying to play a back five with Scott Dann, Martin Kelly, Joel Ward etc. - the squad now is generally of a higher quality, at least in terms of technical ability.

It has been reported that he has signed a contract until 2026 with a one year extension option. Assuming Roy’s health continues to improve - it would seem reasonable to expect the club to announce that Roy is stepping down from his role due to ‘health reasons’. This is a far more respectable way to leave than be sacked! Roy stepped in to the job - whilst so many others refused it. A fitting ending!

Look forward to the new manger being announced - probably after the Everton game.
