No doubt SP will claim it’s all part of the plan

Much as I don’t go for anyone spouting the ‘reliable source’ bollocks, whatever level you’re playing at, if a team is consistently letting in late goals, fitness has always been the first thing that needs looking at

Basically the whole club has had a year off. Until now. Pretty crap really.

The players we have don't really fit in with any systems as a whole, we are going to stick 3421, in that system the full/wing backs are crucial, and you have to have two of each, it is a very exhausting role, at the moment we may have one in Munoz, Mitchell will be ok as back up, so two need to be purchased even if we keep all the key Players, if we lose any they obviously need to be replaced. I would love to see this team starting,
............Johnstone...........
...Richards..Andersen..Guehi....
Munoz..Doucoure..Wharton..NewLWB
......Olise..........Eze........
.............Mateta.............

But don't think i ever will

Personally since switching to a back three I don’t think Ward deserves to be dropped, where as Andersen……but I’d better not go there because I know some players are un-droppable

Modern day football on a fitness/ stamina,'lasting the distance' level is comparable to horse racing.
No matter how hard you train quite a few of our players, they are going to run out of steam after 70 minutes. Yesterday was a classic example.
When Ayew and Wharton had to go off, Mateta, Ward, Mitchell, Andersen heads had dropped and legs were gone.
Some of our players are like 8 furlong runners on the flat as opposed to 2 and 1/4 mile runners.
If you look at the picture at the top of this website today, not one Spurs players foot is on the ground, such is their athleticism.
Im sure Glasner has clocked this and there will be significant adjustments this summer.
All the modern top teams are packed full of distance runner style players. Fast, strong, athletic and capable of lasting 100 minutes comfortably.
The top half of the premier clubs are packed out with this style of player. I reckon its where we will be heading next season.

My thoughts on yesterday, for what they're worth...

We're missing having Guehi on the left of centre. When Andersen was pulled out to the left he really struggled.

Mitchell has a lot of work to do to become a left-wingback.

We looked a lot more organised and confident dealing with set-pieces and SJ in goal was probably our MotM.

Great goal from Eze but like last time he returned from injury was culpable for giving the ball away in dangerous positions which we could have been punished for. He had a 56% pass success rate at half-time which is really bad.

For 70 minutes we looked a lot more organised and disciplined and nullified a very good Spurs team. It looked like a lot of the work in training was on that as offensively there was not a lot to shout about. It's very hard to play on the counter against Spurs as they have the quickest player in the PL as a centre-half and really we needed to be better in possession. I though JPM had a weaker game compared to recent form and his control let him down at times. With Ayew labouring and Eze clearly way off his game it was a struggle. Eduoard looked like he was more willing to run when he came on (which was something) but the most dangerous player for us looked like Munoz! Feed the players more of what he's having as if we had 11 players with his speed and energy we'd be pushing for Europe.

We certainly cannot afford to drop him with Guehi being unavailable for a while.
Should Andersen/Richards/Ward become injured, then either Tomkins is introduced (God forbid) or there might be a consideration to revert back to a traditional back four with full-backs.

My take:

Munoz is super fast, but when he ended up forward on the left side it scared me and left a gaping hole down the right. Which Tottenham exploited. Ayew was there, but they were able to get so far down the pitch uncovered.

Every time the ball was headed away it was Ward (mostly) or Richard’s. I thought Ward played a good game, the headed goal was a tough one to defend (see below). Richard’s played very well. It’s taken a while, but he’s developing into a very good player.

Andersen made a mistake. Lerma also ran right past the player. Silly by both. The commentator said Andersen should have fouled Son before the 3rd goal. He’s an idiot, would have gotten a straight red card and been out for 3 important games. Sheesh!

Wharton was really good. He belongs at this level. I thought Lerma should have come off instead, he was on a yellow and doesn’t play the same with a card. Hughes was disappointing.

Mateta had an alright game against probably the best CB in the premier league right now.

Edwards and Fraca were invisible. I only remember them losing possession.

Maddison should have never been unmarked and had the time to turn and lob the ball in. I’m not sure who should have been there, but that was the root cause of goal #2.

Goal #3 was just a result of us pushing for the equalizer.

Eze’s goal was magnificent. I was upset when substituted, but understood. Ayew fell on the ball and was holding his ribs afterwards. Hope it was just sore.
