Shame-only just behind Ian Wright as the greatest player we have ever had.Saw his home debut in the old third division when he was 16 or 17 and Dad and I both agreed he would play for England after the one game!

Considerably better than Wright in my judgment (and I was there too and reached the same conclusion as you and your dad did). 100 England caps or thereabouts and untouched as a world-class player in his position for a decade attests to that. Wrighty was a brilliant top flight goalscorer and a force of nature; but he was not even close to a world class footballer. He even struggled to crack the England team. Sansom, in his position, was in another echelon to Wright entirely. No other full back was even close in the period he was at his peak.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Its hard to convey to anyone too young to have seen him just how brilliant this now fat, gambling addicted, homeless alcholic was and that makes me sad.

The best player we have ever produced, and given the company he was in that was an achievemnt all on its own and certainly the best player we have ever had, Lombardo apart

Kenny was simply brilliant and I just remember this guy

Just to echo Sash's sentiments he was also not only a brilliant left back but also a superb left-winger and in the same match. He was like an extra attacker at time and could often be found on the corner edge of the area.

And did his defensive duties suffer? Did they heck as like.

I felt he was somewhat stifled as Arsenal and Don Howe being coach.
