Hard to believe, 14 years go! We've come a long way since then. I sense that under OG we may have further to go. I am dusting off my flip flops for a trip or two to Europe the season after next.

Even though it all turned out ok in the end I still have flashbacks to Stern John being through on goal and not squaring it to Ambrose for an easy tap in!!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

He seemed to almost trip over the ball when there was a simple tap in. He was rubbish but we stayed up so he's alright. We'd still be damning him today, everyday if we'd gone down. It could have all been on him.

I went to Sheff Weds with the official Palace coaches. Getting back to the coach after the game was a bit hairy. Yes, just remembering Alan Lee's header, then Danny B with an air kick that led to their first goal. Darren Ambrose scoring our second at our end. Joy, pandemonium, hugging strangers. Then their equaliser, Stern John through on goal, "Square it, Square it" we screamed! Then extra time seeming to last forever. They got a corner and the ref blew for time before they could take it. That wouldn't happen these days! Wednesday fans invaded the pitch and tried to get into our end. Then back to the coaches trying to avoid trouble. Coaches drove back to motorway went past Sheff Utd pub and people came out clapping and cheering. Went past a Wednesday pub and people came out and threw things. A bit like the famous Wrexham game (I was there as well) it felt as good as if we had won the Champions League. I am now reflecting as to why I seem to remember this better than the birth of my children. Please don't tell my wife.

I remember that pub we were in there after the game, a few Utd fans ushered us to it to stop us getting lynched & we saw the coaches go by, we joined them out side, think there were bout 8 of us Palace fans in there, they were so happy. Btw, you've now left yourself open for banter on here after THAT admission

I think the memory that always sticks out for me and what summed up the fighting spirit of that whole team was seeing a bare chested Clint Hill marching through the hoards of Wednesday fans on the pitch after the game, almost like he was thinking to himself ‘well come on then someone have a pop at me so I’ve got an excuse to put someone down’
