You got "fvck all"? Luxury. 17 years and the best I was offered was an extra two weeks off unpaid during Augusts if I wanted it.

When I joined my company there were awards for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 years (in theory). When I got to 9 years they did away with the 10 year award. When I got to 13 years they did away with the 15 year award. I'm not holding my breath any more. I was disappointed I didn't even get a mention in the newsletter for 15 years. Or a thank you. Not even something that'd cost the company nothing.

Where I last worked, you got a certificate at 20 years, £250 John Lewis vouchers at 25 years and £500 John Lewis vouchers at 40 years. All were presented at quite pleasant functions, to which you could invite close family and you got a couple of free photos taken. I was only there long enough to get the first two.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

My Dad worked for a company for 36 years. He was constantly getting long service awards at nice functions. I remember a posh briefcase and a nice camera. Then they made him redundant and he was booted out without so much as a thank you. Swings and roundabouts.

We just give people the bumps to mark the occasion. It's the thought that counts after all.

Edited by Y Ddraig Goch (08 Feb 2016 1.07pm) Lucky old you! Only firm I stayed at more than ten years and on 10 years I got a lapel pin (small badge) Continued in that vain - marked 17 years by making me redundant with the legal minimum compensation!

Not Japanese - was Yugoslav (at the time it still existed), Those communist states loved lapel badges!

I worked somewhere where you got a small badge about the size of a 1p that had 5, 10, or 15 for those that had been with the company that long. 5 years was bronze colour
