I'm currently working on a project about the club's rebrand from claret and light to red and blue. I'm looking for potential good quotes to add to my research. I believe the first club merchandise with the Eagle badge was the club handbook (as seen here): I was wondering if anyone has a copy and could let me know of any text that mentions the rebrand; for instance in mangers/chairman notes? Or any other information would be a great help. Thanks!

I've just read the 73-4 handbook, probably for the first time since August 1973, and there is absolutely no mention in there of our colour and crest changes. So I turned to the first few home programmes and in each of them, the inside back page carries the advert attached - but that's all there is. Bear in mind I stopped after the first 3 editions so there may be something later in the season, but that's just guesswork. Note the discrepancy in the prices of the rosettes, a typical Palace mistake! Good luck with your project, let me know if you need any more help or any photos etc.

Very strange there is no mention!! Was very close to buying that programme against Notts County, so thanks for the scan. I recently bought a programme from 1972/73 season that mentions of a new crest in Ray Bloye's notes pre-dating Malcolm Allison's arrival at the club. This has thrown a curveball to the idea that MA was the driving force behind the rebrand. Edited by frogzilla (01 Nov 2015 9.57pm)

There had been a competition for supporters to design a new badge and the winner adorned the shirts of the 72/73 season.
I am ready, are you? Sheffield here we come. |
