What's the attraction of Cooper?
Parish wouldn't have to pay a compensation fee and that makes him very attractive!
This is pointed out in a detailed Telegraph article about Cooper's sacking.
In fairness, Cooper has had a degree of success in all his jobs to date.
What did surprise me from the article was about how many players he fell out with at Forest
I suppose this could be partly attributable to the bloated nature of the squad including players he didn't necessarily want.
Players not selected would no doubt cause issues.
It wouldn't surprise me to see Roy standing down 'by mutual consent' to be replaced by Cooper.
Alternatively, the change could happen at the end of the season if Cooper takes a break from the game.

It's not only 27,000 Palace fans though. You can add about 50,000 Liverpool fans and hundreds of thousands of England fans.

Maybe they could all have managed, Palace better than he has? No go further Liverpool, anyone does that job, and it has to be England as well, considering how they must think they their knowledge of the game is superior enough to seriously question his.

It’s funny you should say that because I’ve noticed your opinions on Roy have changed substantially in the last 3 months or so and you are beginning to see the light.

Not at all.

I recognise the frustrations that people have with him, some of which I have myself, nobody’s perfect.

My position is clear ; when Hodgson was re-appointed this season did people seriously think he was going to change his methodology ? If there was to be a continuation of the shift towards more front footed football that we saw at the end of last season, well he’s simply not had the players available to do that. Still, gives people like you something to moan about.

Given his emphasis on team shape, he’s highly unlikely to place trust in youth over experience. Some on here were advocating the likes of Rob Street, Niya Kirby etc to be put in the first team when they patently weren’t good enough. Of the next batch of young players coming through, Ozoh is being developed, Jes will get game time when fit again and Franca continues to progress - let’s hope more can step up. As somebody that watches as many games as possible at U18 and 21 level, my view is that there isn’t anyone else that is ready to bridge that playing gap at the moment.

In conclusion, I value Hodgson and his coaching staff’s opinion over yours - and indeed over mine.

If I have changed my view of one person in recent months, it’s of Steve Parish. Not of Hodgson.

I laughed at your previous comment.
But seriously this is to much mate, I wish I had written that. Agree with you on every point. You make.I to watch all the levels and whole scene has had the same effect.

He's definitely more of a Dowie than a Pardew but if that means there's no threat of him shagging any of the players' wives then I think it's a good thing.

Perhaps too much emphasis is on the manager rather than the players available.

Think Vieira in his first season ; a fit and firing balanced midfield of Gallagher, McArthur and Kouyate all in form and pressing from the front which enabled us to play further up the field .
In their absence and towards the end Vieira became cautious, sat the team deeper and seemed to lose confidence leading to poor results and lack of efforts on goal.

Think Roy at the end of last season; Olise and Eze started playing well and confidence surged leading to improved performances from others in the team.
In the absence of Olise and Eze (and Zaha) this season, however, the team has lacked the craft to undo teams .
It’s likely we would have seen better performances (and better results) this season with those players available.

This is where I have some sympathy of those critical of Roy, and to an extent of Viera before him.
If you haven’t got the craft of Olise and Eze or the energy of Gallagher and McArthur you have to find other ways to threaten the opposition.
This could be through set pieces, more direct play, more crosses, 2 up front on occasions, more efforts on goal.
Not gung ho attack, but selective attacks targeting opponents’ weaknesses as opposed to trying the bore the opposition to death and occasionally nick a result.

To merely shrug your shoulders and say we haven’t got the players to threaten is an absence of taking responsibility.
Find a way to threaten.

We'll probably have enough players available to get something from the Brighton game but shouldn’t be disappointed with one point.
Perhaps we need a few additional players more than a new manager but Cooper's current availability might tempt Parish to bring him on-board earlier than planned?

I'm not convinced about Cooper. He might be good for the younger players. Any managerial appointment by any club has jeopardy. Why risk it now. Roy's Roy and everybody knows what they are getting.
If he's around in the summer then maybe. Rather him than Potter.
He might function better under a more steady regime.
Meantime I'd rather have Roy in charge tomorrow, cos I think he gets it.

Who ever does become the next Palace manager the board, must be able to seriously back him by boosting our senior squad with at least three ready to use players.
This could be Cooper , As Forest manager he has comfortably held us twice and beaten us once. That tells me he would want something over what we have.
His knowledge of youth football has to be second to none, except for to say that handling the very best of any age group is always a bonus, and quiet different to finding gems in a mixed group. Having said that he should know one if it’s there.
Give him an improved senior squad and I’d say yes because best of all he is very tactically astute .

I remember this same rhetoric when Peter Taylor was appointed, after managing this under somethings for England. The turned out to be absolutely useless, resorted to signing his son in law, who was useless as well.
Forget Cooper, 2 wins in 28 away games. He had many game ready players signed at Forrest, but couldn’t see the woods for the trees.

... he certainly got lost at the Forest! I'm open minded about Cooper but we don't need him at the present time.
