When did you last read the Highway Code? Be honest now, I bet you haven't looked at it for ages. I confess I haven't.

There are 8 recent changes to the Highway Code. I've read these and I can't help thinking they could cause more accidents.

As I see it, cyclists come out the winners. Be interesting to read what you all think.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Now if I have got it right , as a pedestrian if I am standing to cross a side road the car driver must stop to let me cross .
They must also stop for a cyclist to either come pass them or let them turn right first .
What happens if a cyclist turn and hit the pedestrian who has [ they think ] the right of way .
Who is in the right ?
I bet it won't be the pedestrian .

The new rules weren't QA'd properly. I can see accidents, where a driver is intending (and indicating) to turn left. they slow down, and as they turn the corner, a pedestrian in the road, makes them slam on the brakes. The vehicle then gets hit from behind, because the following driver has assumed the vehicle in front is making the turn.
Then whose fault ? The pedestrian is in the clear, so it's left to the insurance to sort it out.

All sorts of similar scenarios, where the car driver takes the hit on their insurance.

Indeed I know someone who was involved in a 7 car pile up luckily no one was injured. The lead car stopped suddenly when she spotted a parking space, the next car behind her managed to swerve her and then got shunted by the 5 cars behind. Bottom line the lead car unscathed the rest were write offs police and insurance told the drivers your fault driving too close together.

In fairness to the drivers they had not expected the lead car to accelerate and then suddenly brake when she saw a space.

One more point

All cyclists should have insurance, all cyclists should have a licence, all cyclists should take a road safety test and all cuclists should accept the same penalties for riding dangerously as motorists do. Vermin on two wheels, doesn't matter if they're couriers, school kids or commuters they all break the highway code with impunity.

i wish there were stricter laws on car stereos blasting their shyte music at everybody.
