If as expected Bridget Philippson takes over when Rayner is sacked then the remaining Corbynista/Momentum types will lose their sh1t.

Will be interesting to see if they have the self control to wait until after the election before tearing each other apart.

It is surely only a matter of ‘when not if’ she resigns…Unless that is they give the case to the same police officers who investigated her and Mr. Starmer for their lockdown beers and curry.

Rayner has done a lot wrong but she will get away with it.
The media are generally on her side otherwise stuff would have been dug up by the hour and it hasn't.
I doubt a single police person is even investigating.
As soon as she said she would resign I knew she was safe.
She will be the next Labour Prime Minister once she gets rid of one knee.

I noticed that she gave a lawyers response "If I am convicted of a criminal offence I will resign".

Each year thousands of people are caught defrauding HMRC, in the last 2 years though only 400 were prosecuted. Except in serious cases HMRC will do a deal with the offender, e.g. pay what you owe and a fine. Raynor knows this so even if she has done wrong it is highly unlikely she will be prosecuted.

Again with Electoral fraud if she did give a wrong address it is very unlikely that she will be prosecuted.

So she can have done wrong but not be convicted.

I really should catch up but broadly speaking is the crux of the matter that she benefitted from buying a council property at a low price, used it as a main residence until some way down the line she formed a relationship with someone, moved in with him, eventually got married & some time in between sold the ex council property avoiding paying CGT by saying that it was still her main residency -

I think so. As well as CGT she also benefited from the council house discount when selling which you can only claim if you are living there.

She is also alleged to have nominated this home as her main residence for voting purposes when she lived elsewhere (electoral fraud).

As I said in my post if she is guilty of these claims I seriously doubt she will be prosecuted.

Thanks Badger - it does feel a bit like the media smell blood in the water & when that happens they rarely let it drop until they have an outcome.

She will not apply the standards she spouts for others to herself, total hypocrisy but what's new with that in politics

No one in politics has any standards but the amount she is alleged to have not a paid (reported at around £3500,) is so low that it would probably cost HMRC more y to investigate and sort out payment etc, so where would we be then moaning about a scandalous waste of public money.

It is a fraction say of the legal costs the govt paid to see a Tory minister try to prosecute a university student for wearing a headscarf.

It's all deflection tactics and smoke and mirror like most of politics these days

It’s not just about her being a criminal, it’s also about whether the likely next Deputy Prime Minister is a liar and a total hypocrite.

I thought that was the minimum qualification for the Labour shadow cabinet.

I think you will find it is the minimum qualification for admittance to both houses of parliament.

No party has a monopoly on these qualities
