Bolasie's really got up and running at Everton, already made 2 assists for Lukaku. We have certainly lost an important and unique player and one that would have flourished playing next to Benteke, either in that second striker role or his natural left position. I was wondering if there was any way in which we could have kept hold of him. I think most assumed that the Bolasie money went towards paying for Benteke but Pardew did say that the club wanted to keep him and it was the players wish to go. IF it were the case that the club could finance both retaining Bolasie and buying Benteke, could we not have insisted that Bolasie stay at least until January and see if he still wanted to go then? After all Zaha also wanted a move away and yet we insisted he stay.

The difference being that someone offered 25m for bolasie and only 12 for wilf.

It will be interesting to see if Lukaku is injured as to how well Yala adapts. He was quiet after the man up front went off. Also, that was most certainly Yala's goal. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

God mate there's a lot of if's and maybe's in there just to maybe reach the highest place outside of the big spenders which is the reality of the situation. To get beyond that takes a freak or good recruitment in every window whereas we've had really bad Windows and very good windows.

Bolasie will do well at Everton. I said that before he played there. We have done well selling him at the peak of his value. Bolasie wanted to go and if it wasn't now it would be every window until he wont renew his contract and we have no asset to sell. That is it. It is about football, career, earnings and signing fee progression for players now rather than fan fantasy of decades past.

Bolasie obviously wanted to go but it was more dignified than lots of similar situations. Be happy for that. Another player part of our meteoric rise who appreciated what we did for him rather forgetting it.

Also we were never going to sell both of them together with only Townsend arriving, whose arrival was clearly an addition should one of them leave in the window. Interest in Yannick wasn't a surprise altho possibly Spurs late interest in Wilf was. If Yannick had stayed and had a good run up to Jan I suspect he would of been off then after AFCON. Interesting to see how Wilf's future will progress.

I don't think we could have done the trading we did and kept Yala. Not quite. 25m transfer fee, 3-4m in wages. Almost 30m on top of our annual budget seems toppy.

We changed Yala for Big Ben. I think it was a good change, based on our need, but only time will tell.

Mate, we sold Bolasie because Parish thought he was at the peak of his value and I think he's right. I don't believe it had anything to do with anything else. We could afford Benteke regardless. We'd just had to have forgotten buying in midfielders which is what we've ended up doing anyway because we left it to late and either weren't sure of Rincons value, haven't actually scouted him properly or as usual wanted to maximise every deal in our favour. Fair enough to a point but remember that positions mean millions and the lack of cover almost put us in real danger before.

Who did we buy after selling Bolasie? Benteke only.

Unfortunately once he wanted away there was little chance of hanging onto him.

I keep reading he's not this and he's not that but in the last three years he's gone from being massively frustrating to one of the most exciting players I've seen in a Palace shirt. Has the ability to create chaos in the worst stalemate at and improved his crossing and shooting massively over the last eighteen months.

Personally wouldn't have sold even at £25m given the choice. Has the the three things that opposition hate in that he's strong, fast and direct.

Rachid, you wouldn't have sold?

Football is business now. Ferguson at Man U was the best at knowing when to sell players at their peak value when he knew their worth to the side was about to decline or to free finances. It is a very wise and strong business strategy that should keep us stable and in the league for a long time rather than trying for some blinding seasons to finish above the big 8 or so and then being relegated. That is really easily done and what is the point of that in the long run?

I am concerned of back up quality but appreciate why Bolasie was sold, even though nobody was bought in at midfield or anywhere else which is I presume was more of an aim when Bolasie had gone but should've really been earlier.

Note the difference between bought and brought please. Flaming was brought in. Rincon or anyone else were not bought in.

No I wouldn't but saying that with my fan glasses on up to a point.

Just think if he'd stayed with us and we'd had him and Benteke (injury free) then you'd be almost guaranteed two more years in the prem. No coincidence that our form fell off a cliff when he got injured at Stoke.

Townsend a very tidy replacement but cant really beat a player and reckon Bolasie would have been at the Euros if he was English.
