Today could be a defining day for the future of Europe.

Firstly, there is a re-run of the Presidential election where the Freedom Party candidate could get elected:

Secondly, there is the Italian constitutional election, which if the government is defeated, will likely plunge Italy into a political crisis:

Its looked like that we will have some company when we leave the EU the way things are going now. I feel a lot of nations are fed up with France and Germany ruling the roost....It will be good to watch as it all crumbles round them. We are not alone in wanting out!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

The ironically named Freedom Party was founded by Nazis...Its predecessors, the pan-German and national liberal camps, were both affiliates of Nazi Germany.

"... The party leader, Heinz-Christian Strache, told Austria’s public broadcaster as he began his campaign to be Vienna’s mayor, “We don’t want our Christian-Western culture to perish.”

Heard it before somewhere?...Try Vienna 1930's...

"Tomorrow belongs to us"...Be careful what you wish for...

I don't think anyone who has contributed to this thread 'wishes' for the Freedom Party candidate to get elected.

Why the insinuation people do, Legal?

Forgive me,Matthew,

I had (perhaps wrongly) assumed you partly viewed today as a portentous day because you wanted to see the Eurosceptic Freedom Party achieve success in Austria.

If they and their ilk elsewhere in Europe are as repugnant to you as they are to me,then fair enough and I am delighted to hear it.

I was commenting on the potential political ramifications of today, rather than desire to see a party formed by Nazi's, that argues for a resurgence in German nationalism, gain power.

Euroscepticism is a good thing. Nazism bad. I thought we all understood that?

It would be interesting to hear people's opinions on the content of this video if they've got the time to watch it:

Eurosceptism definitely not a good thing when reflected by a surge in support for outfits like the Freedom Party...once the demons are let out of the sewer its not always easy to put them back in with the rest of the sh*t..

Neither the Italian referendum nor the Austrian presidential runoff are about leaving the EU.

Why is there no introspection by the likes of yourself as to how and why the EU and the 'progressive left [sic]' are getting battered? Why did you lose the argument Legal? Why do the masses fail to see your side?

I believe that the EU is corrupt, unfit for purpose, undemocratic and a supranational behemoth that answers to no one. If it was such a good model, all continents would be copying it, yet, strangely, they aren't. I I also believe the EU is an illusion, built on economic lies and shortly the house of cards will collapse. That's why we need to take this wonderful opportunity to engage with the rest of the World. That's my Euroscepticism, not built on raw emotive nationalism, the stuff you lot hate because you lot can't answer that and call me a 'bigot'.
