I think I've twigged where AP is going wrong.

Does he really need to spend the whole match standing in the technical area like an unforgiving headmaster?

My schooldays are long gone, but one thing I disliked intensely was teacher standing over me as I was trying to do my sums and joined-up writing.

In my view, AP should get his work done in the week, then go away on matchday and watch the action on the screen - or just go shopping with the missus.

As a result, the players would be far more relaxed - and their performances would assuredly improve.

Keith Millen has a more reassuring presence - let him take over technical area duties on matchdays.

If you were to offer your missus to him at 3pm on a Saturday your wish will be granted.

Stevie Coppell had the best idea, he used to watch the 1st half from the stands where you can get a much better overall view of the match.

..they only stand there to look good anyway, they have no input into how the players play on the day so yes merganser you're right.

For that to work for all concerned one needs 'forward planning'. I am not sure that is one of AP's strongest assets.

I am always puzzled why so much is scribbled in AP's little note book during matches. Is it stuff that is planned but gets forgotten?

Is it stuff that should have been in the plans in the first place?

Is it stuff he has just thought of for the second half or the press conference afterwards?

Is it his shopping list he's adding to for Monday morning in Caterham High St!
