Back in 1979 i lost my wallet at selhurst when we played bristol city 27000 fans there and i was lucky enough to get it sent back to me with money still in it, i tried back then to find out, who found it to thank them even asked palace to ask over the tanoy with no luck, just wondered if that that person is on this site and remembers doing it .this all come about when i found someones wallet recently and the guy come round my house to thank me he lived about 20 miles away so just looking for closure

Well it definitely couldn't have been a Bristol City fan so that narrows it down to 26,000. Minus those Palace fans with Scottish heritage that brings it down to 22,000 and minus anyone under the age of 20 that was there so we are down to 15,000. Add in probable deaths by now and reckon it has to be one of 10,000.

oh, yeah, also forget anyone born in Thornton Heath, Mitcham or New Addington back then. Down to one of 3,000. Nearly there. I'll have this solved by tea-time.

That made me laugh. With logic like that you should get the job as the next Sherlock. Failing that i look forward to your next standup show.

Been to Anfield twice seen 14 goals and my team haven't scored any

Kermit I'm trying to help you solve this case.
In 1979 we only played Bristol City in the FA Cup.
Round 4 29th January we won 3-0 in front of 21,463.
We also played Bristol City earlier that season but that was 1978.!!!!
We did not have a gate of 27,000 that season, however we did have a gate of:-
51,801
QUESTIONS
Who was that against ?
Score ?
Scorers Names ?
Managers Name ?

BONUS QUESTION

What happened on the 29th September 1979 in front of 29,885. ?

Too easy Alan. Jim Cannon scored the greatest goal ever at Selhurst and we went top.

Plus, we did play Bristol City. They were our first opponents in Division One at home after getting promotion in 78/79. August 1979. Norman Hunter got sent off. Remember now?

It was a worn black leather one with about 60 quid in it. I paid for the return postage out of it.
