I was told of an article about fruit and veg producers not having enough labour force to collect the produce from the ground or trees.
Hence it is going to go bad.
Rumour is that the foreign labour who did this in the past has gone now as brexit put the Willey's up them.
Maybe we can find some of the thousands of British youngsters who were sure and were told by others that their jobs were being taken by these foreigners to do the work now that there are vacancies.
I won't hold my breath but also don't look forward to the price increases which may come with this problem.
Still never mind at least we are free of Europe and can do what we want.....

Stop dishing out endless amounts of credit and they might do jobs youngsters used to do. However, one aim of credit is to at some point make workers keep turning up for that not really career job without prospects they thought were going to be available for more people than there is.

A few pence on a lettuce isn't going to ruin anyone and going by the amount thrown out of fridges on a weekly basis I think people should smarten up.

when the EU-enforced minimum wage is dropped, maybe farmers can afford to entice local youngsters to apply for the jobs.

maybe we can make these local youngsters all work for their dole. seems fair enough.

the situation across the EU ....with locals all languishing on the dole while farmers employ illegal third-world skivvies on a pittance. This is totally wrong.

low wages, no human rights, no health and safety....remember all the chinese cockle-shell pickers who died in morecombe bay ?

Nope, we're a free market capitalist country - they should pay higher wages to attract workers. That's how capitalism works. The down side of businesses that have relied in the past on profits generated from cheap migrant labour from the EU, is that they might actually find they can't afford to employ people, or have to direct income from their profit dividends to wage increases to attract employees.

If you start making people work to earn their dole, you're undermining the stability of working peoples jobs (after all why pay 150 a week, when you can get a dole worker for 60).

Seconded.

And your facts come from where on your last paragraph.
I think many farms pay above the minimum wage, supply food and drink, and have to be inspected so the Health and safety is in place.

Maybe a lot of youngsters are pushed to go the top immediatly and are convinced by the powers that be that they deserve to get to the top rung without touching the bottom.
This is a big problem.
This particular employment isn't for life just to get a feel for actual work and life's experience. It pays money as well and that makes the world go round apparently.

A few pence on a lettuce no your right.
But a few pence on all produce related to this environment adds up to a lot of pence.
Some people Rudi need to budget for every penny they have.
You shouldn't assume it won't affect anybody.
