Having worked professionally in the area of addiction treatment for many years,it recently occurred to me that the attachment I have to watching Palace, and to a degree, the dependency I have on them for my 'Highs' is in many ways similar to the dependency some people have with some drugs/substances and addictive behaviors.
I look forward in hope and anticipation to Matches and going to Selhurst Pk.That gives me a high.
I get a significant alteration in my mood when we win and conversely when we lose.My mood drops significantly when we lose and lifts when we win.
The lows can last for days.
My addiction to following Palace has lasted since my childhood and I cannot break the habit.Supporting a more successful club, would also be easier for me for travel as I live in West London.Teams such as Chelsea Arsenal Spurs, are all are closer than SP.
Watching Palace is an addictive behavior I cannot break despite knowing it is not good for my Mental health.
Maybe someone should start a support system.PA Palace supporters anonymous for fellow addicts.
By the way, this addiction as lasted since the late 1960's and the days of the great Johhny Byrne.
Any other 'Addicts' out there who's Mental health suffers watching Palace?

Addiction is very much about 'Denial' of the problem.
So maybe Step One is acknowledging my powerlessness over the issue!!

In my Palace suicidal moments I also think that supporting a top 6 side would certainly cure the symptoms fans/ addicts are experiencing. This would immediately remove the constant fear of relegation and the highs would be more plentiful thus enhancing our lives. There is a solution but taking it , like an addict , is almost impossible. COYP

The thing is, if you supported a top six side and experienced win after win after win, where then would the highs come from? With drugs the body adjusts and gets used to the same dosage and you need more of the stuff to feel the highs again. The only option is to go cold turkey and start all over again. Watching Palace we (occasionally) get a high from a win and that’s immediately followed by a low, so we are never in the situation of needing a higher dosage. Several months down the line, there might be another win and we experience that almost forgotten high again.

Do you not think that the likes of Usain Bolt, Steve Redgrave or Michael Johnson felt the highs every time they won?

It's the same with football club supporters and those fans of Liverpool and Manchester City get a high every time their team wins

Yes, I'm sure that the three you mention, and others in similar fields, do feel a high after they win. However they don't compete as frequently as PL sides play, so there's a longer gap in which they can 'come down' from their highs.

This is exactly what I meant when I originally posted this.
The high I got from this result today beats anything I used back in my Rock band days..
I just fear we will blow it against Cardiff wednesday and Ill be back down again, literally Cold Turkeying it.
