I’ve been very impressed by him have to say. Not only looks a very good keeper but has an assured, sincere presence about him that for me inspires confidence and a belief in a quiet leader at the back.

Not without his faults but I do/have loved Vinnie however age alone might usher in a successor. Unsure on Sam’s longer term likelihood of staying fit etc but very encouraged by the prospect of him being our no.1 goalie.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

100% should be our number 1. Much better all round keeper and so much better with his feet. I can’t see him losing the jersey now.

I've long been a Vincente fan because of his quick reactions, cool demeanor, and genuine humility. His lack of confidence re coming off the line for high balls, commanding his defenders, or playing the ball with his feet were shortcomings I've been willing to overlook because he made so many reaction-saves that would have been goals against other keepers.

Sam has been superior regarding "long" saves with strong hands, commanding his defenders (it appears), and of course playing with his feet. Today he made several kicks that were better than any I've seen by a Palace keeper in the past 5-6 seasons. I'm glad he's ours going forward, and I'd be surprised if his game declines at all in the next 3-5 seasons. Great signing.

Think VG must wait for Sam J. to be injured to get back...

Which given his recent record wont be too long . As Nicholas alludes in the OP Johnston needs to prove his long term fitness rather than his goalkeeping abilities which have never really been in question .

A fit Johnstone will be a worry for Vicente

And we still need a striker

I think the club have a good situation but that will need to be managed carefully.

VG has been absolutely top drawer over four years IMO but at thirty six there has to be an eye on the future whereas Johnstone at thirty will consider himself in his prime years and want game time.

Johnstone looked very assured and solid against Leeds and made good decisions.

Agree, nice position to be in. Have to say first impressions are that Johnston has the edge.

I would prefer him to VG, he seems to have a bit more presence as well as his agility. Although his appearances have tied in with our upturn in form, so maybe comparing him to VG would be fairer after he’s played a lot more games.

He had another good game yesterday and I'd like to see him keep his place. For me, he has more presence than Guaita and looks to be more authorative in the box.

Both good keepers so no worries in that department.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Vincente is still no1 for me.

But great to know that we have a natural successor and/or don't need to worry about injuries.
