Darren Ambrose could do that if he decided he wanted to.

The NY Red Bulls keeper did that a number of years ago from a free kick deep in his own half. It's happened more than one would think. And yes, those are gridiron markings as this was at the old Giants Stadium in the Jersey Swamp before Red Bull Arena was built.

Theres nothing more to these keeper goals than pure luck. I can't bring myself to ever class them as great goals.

Ricky Villa's goal for Spurs v Man City as according to the commentator it was "scored by a player from the other side of the World!" Imagine the scene....Luckily Buenos Aires in Argentina is the same time as Wembley Stadium, London being on the same longitude but is 6915 miles away. Ricky would have had to hit the football up towards the Jet Stream a good few hours before the 3pm kickoff to allow the ball to carry the Atlantic Ocean, along the M4 corridor towards London and put sufficient spin on it for the ball to drop at the right moment into Wembley and catch the keeper off his line! Fantistico..... Gooooaaaallllllllll !

Distance and quality don't necessarily go hand in hand. Was he shooting? Probably not. More luck than skill.

A goal which immediately sprung to my mind was Van Persie's volley for Man Utd against A.Villa.

Unless you're actually going for goal, it cannot truly be counted as great. For me, one of my all time favourite goals was Paddy McCarthy's screamer from 35-40 yards out against Derby County. There have been better screamers, sure, but not many by centre backs, at that range. Absolute peach of a goal, from a player I never saw actually take a shot.
