Well Marianne it’s come to this time when we are really so old and our bodies are falling apart and I think I will follow you very soon. Know that I am so close behind you that if you stretch out your hand, I think you can reach mine. And you know that I’ve always loved you for your beauty and your wisdom, but I don’t need to say anything more about that because you know all about that. But now, I just want to wish you a very good journey. Goodbye old friend. Endless love, see you down the road. - letter written to his muse earlier this year, on learning she was dying. ps fat finger - can't edit the spelling, sorry Len. Have struggled to listen to his stuff because of his voice but a brilliant songwriter/ poet for sure. He certainly leaves a rich legacy of material behind.

I remember the first time I heard 'The Songs of Leonard Cohen'. It did in fact change my life. Probably one of the greatest song writers, if not the greatest song writer of all time, and a great poet and very good author. Canada's greatest export

Mum loved him. Accordingly the Songs of Leonard Cohen provided the soundtrack for my early youth along with the Mamas and the Papas Best Of, Bridge Over Troubled Water and [ahem] Nana Maskouri.

Had a lot of fans but his musical style was not for me I'm afraid. RIP the Godfather of Gloom!

His latest and last album is full of moody religious undertones. There are a couple of very nice songs on it which are on my current playlist.
