Very, very talented man; a great songwriter. Also true to the spirit of American rock in the tradition of the Byrds. I saw Tom and the Heartbreakers supporting Nils Lofgren at Hammersmith May '77. They were very impressive, obvious they were destined for greater things. Very sad he should go at a relatively young age, but he has left a fabulous musical legacy for discerning fans. RIP Tom!

Tom Petty was the very first concert I went to (Would have been Roxy Music but they cancelled). My eldest brother was really in to him, so I borrowed a few records - loved Refugee, American Girl, Even The Losers etc. and saw the great man in Brighton. Full Moon Fever is still a favourite CD and the Greatest Hits is well worth a listen. Netflix has a Tom Petty documentary which is well worth a watch too. Very sad. RIP Tom.
You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name. |
