It would be grossly incompetent for a Chairman not to have some contingency planning in place in case the worst came to the worst.

This is the "Contingency Planning" I referred to in a post yesterday.

It says that he is planning for the Championship, but the inference of his comments appear to be that it will be down to the players as to whether we go down or not (which is entirely true at the end of the day) and that to not plan for the championship would be foolish (which is sad, but true). I don't think you can say he attaches any blame to anyone for where we are. Have another read, see what you think.

I guess as a business you have to plan in a ‘what if ‘ way to ensure continuity. It is a bit chilling though when he quite rightly says that promotion and relegation are temporary in the long term development of the club. Whilst he is of course correct , after all we have been up and down the divisions for years, it is still hard to take that if we go down so be it the long term will be good.

Long term planning is the prime role of a company chairman and it would be grossly remiss of our chairman not to be planning for the eventuality of relegation

We knew that already, judging by the recent transfer window

No SP is quite wrong. It is an unnecessary thing to say and will damage morale at a critical time. Didn't make any such statements last year when Allardyce was here and we stayed up ok. Keep your powder dry of course it is frustrating.

It’s all well and good coming out and saying he’s planning for the championship but what about the two seasons previous where we’ve flirted with relegation he never once said that back then so why now when apparently we have one of the strongest teams we’ve ever had ?

I’m sure he didn’t just decide to throw that into an interview. He was certainly answering a question put to him. Perhaps he wasn’t asked that question in the last two seasons or, if he was, the journalist chose not to report his response.
