I saw this on the club website so thought I would repost. Back in the day I used to sit near him he was always ready to talk to fans. For some he is a hate figure I never understood that I thought he was a good chairman and prior to our current guy our most successful one.

And selling off the crown jewels to Sainsbury's ? No that was the previous chairman Ray Bloye who took an 800k consultancy fee from the club. To his credit Noades took him to court to try to recover it but lost.

Ron Noades arrived when our club was on its knees with paltry attendances and steered the club through some of the greatest times in our history with promotions to the top division, a 3rd place finish, an FA Cup final appearance and of course another Wembley appearance when we won the ZDS cup. At Selhurst Park, the Holmesdale Stand was built replacing the ageing terrace and the Whitehorse Lane Stand was also constructed. I saw Ron Noades a few months before he passed away and I was really saddened to see the deterioration in his health.RIP. Finally, some rather disparaging remarks have been made concerning his dear wife Novello.I always found Novello to be a charming, friendly lady and I wish her well. On the whole he was good for the club but at heart he was always a businessman.

Noades clicked his fingers at a barman in the golf club to summon him for drinks. Never liked him from that moment on. Had to play against him and Novello in a couple of mixed golf matches and pleased to say we never lost to them. Only saving grace for me was he did appear to have a genuine love of Palace and would happily chat about them even after giving up ownership.

Agreed it took an idiot like Mark Goldberg to help him do it. Mark's problem was that he was a Palace fan with stars in his eyes and not enough money to own a football club. Noades used his retained ownership of the ground as a pawn in his pursuit of personal gain. It took years of pain to get over the damage hes did to the club.
