Listen to any football pundit and they will tell you that Roy's system requires complete adherence to a specific plan which is honed by hours after hours of positional work on the training field. With an England team you do not get the opportunity to spend that much time with players and certainly not the days of specific training that he insists on. On that basis alone you will probably find that his teams were not able to implement his tactics which is why they looked so lost out on the pitch against pretty mediocre opposition. That's my take on it, I could be wrong, but those in charge should not have given him the England job if they knew how he works as a manager. You win competitions at the highest level with an inspirational manager who gets the very best out of the players you have, not with a system that you try and shoehorn the players into. Edited by Eaglecoops (31 Jul 2020 10.21am) Jack Charlton's interivew shared the other day showed how to organise an international team back in the 90's. Just keep everything simple. At the time, most people wanted Redknapp to get the job, but he wouldn't have been the yes man the FA insist on having. It seems to be an ongoing problem with both the FA/RFU/ECB. Led by a bunch of establishment throwbacks hired through an old school tie network.

Interest in the national team was at an all time low when he left. Southgate only really got the job because of a nationwide appathy towards the role. 2012 was a bit of a free pass due to the circumstances he was hired under, 2014 and 2016 were national embarressments. Also happened in 1950 and 1958.

His future lies with a Top 6 team and a step up to Europe for which he had a brief taste of via Burnley a couple of seasons ago. Nearest Palace will get to Europe is weekend break via Eurostar at present. It doesn’t.

I dont really want to go over this again. It's worth considering that when he had the option of picking any player in England he still didn't get results because he was just far too defensive. Similarly with Liverpool where he just seemed to get loads of draws. Hodgson football is a means to an end and has done what it needs to do but it's now stopped working and he's out of ideas. 1st season good - brought in some new ideas, but had our best ever squad. (Not a miracle) It think it's 18 games and 15 points since Christmas. Simply doing the same thing again will result in relegation. Sticking with him out of loyalty is admirable, but there's no space for nostalgia in elite sport. We need more that just being defensively well organised. Under Pulis we were better with a worse squad but the players looked more motivated, rapid on the break and we were deadly at set peices. Currently, we just dont threaten teams and cant keep a clean sheet. Hodgson's plan is be defensively organised, and hope Wilf does something special. The best time to get rid of him would have been after the Villa game.

I promised myself I wouldn't reply to your posts anymore because you're obviously a troll, but for the sake of other people reading this I cannot let go such a bestiality. Hodgson football has stopped working? Did they pulled a plug? Lol... 1st season good? Well, lol, he had Cabaye as a playmaker, RLC as an attacking midfielder PLUS the good Zaha, and the good Townsend playing with speed at the wings, of course it was good... 2nd season Ok? why? What would you have done losing both the playmaker AND the attacking midfielder? Of course playing with the wings and with a decent loan striker. 3rd season Run out of ideas? He didn't run out of ideas, he ran out of players! He lost also the decent loan striker AND the wings (Zaha and Townsend walk on the pitch). The situation only improves a bit if Schlupp plays as he's the only one left a bit quick so relieves pressure on Zaha and we can try some counterattack... What game can he play? Ball possession not having playmakers? Counterattack on the wings not having quick wingers and a good ST? Central attacks not having an attacking midfielder (before anyone comes in for a laugh saying Meyer can do it, have a look at this and honestly tell me if he could... [Link] What you are saying are the causes, not the consequences.

[Link] What you are saying are the causes, not the consequences. Obviously a troll, good one. Why are you trying to just shut down the argument with petty insults? If you don't want your opinions challenged then what's the point in saying them? I put in a quote, from Roy Hodgson, saying he doesnt know what more that he can do, yet you claim he hasn't run out of idea.... I'm not sure how much clearer that could be. And if the manager cant motivate the players.... then it's a lot cheaper to change the manager. After 3 years lots of managers would struggle. Change is good for the soul after a while. That's an excellent video of RLC, showing that after getting a run in the team he was the kind of player who deserved a place in the best england squad of our generation. He'd cost £40m to buy, well out of our price range. It could be argued that Hodgson was made to look good that season due to an excellent group of players. Especially after following on from the worst manager in the history of the premier league. Cabaye, AWB, and RLC haveny been replaced, yet fot some reason we signed players in position where we already had plenty of strength in depth (we've got 7 capable of playing CM and 7 at CB). Something is clearly very wrong there between Parish, Freedman, and Hodgson. The blame needs to be shared. That said, the squad we have should still be capable of keeping us up relatively comfortably.
