The whole work/life balance thing we have over in Europe (the continent are better at it than us) doesn’t seem to have permeated over the pond yet. A lot of it is to do with health insurance - Americans petrified of losing their jobs/careers and being uninsured for medical treatment. Gives a lot more power to the employer to dictate terms.
