Wembley. Block 140. Row 31. Seat 182. Come and tell me Churchill was a pr*ck to my face. It's a shame he helped save people like you.
Wow. Yeah that rolling eyes icon gets way over used on here. I'm merely offering to have a face-to-face to chat about it. I'm sure he'll be defending the actions of Islamic terrorists next.
Indeed. I'd love to have done it, merely to see his reactio, even if he dished out a beating. "What'd you say, mate? You f***in want some!?" "Why did you attack him?" "Well, your honour..."

If it were not for the leadership of Churchill it would not be possible for this discussion to take place ...I was there. Why is it necessary to besmirch the name of a great war hero who led this Country when we fought alone against one of the most beastly regimes the world has seen.

I avoid political debates on here because they tend to become childish. No doubt that despite the fact that many hated churchill when I was a kid growing up----" Every time he opens his mouth we get bombed" was the mantra he did very well in uniting this country. Fortunately I survived the bombing, the street I lived in was badly bombed) Chamberlain would have been a disaster and nobody with leadership qualities other than Churchill was around at the time. it was interesting to watch some of the programme where Fatty Soames ( cannot recall his christian name) passed comment on the funeral gesture when the cranes in the london docks lowered their jibs. Only to be advised later that the dockers hated Churchill and only lowered the jibs for special payment. Mixed feelings about him were perhaps the reason that he lost the post war General election.e Finally can you imagine any of the current political lightweights being able to carry out Churchill role.

I believe the OP would benefit from drawing distinctions between concentration camps and extermination camps. The latter, with the twisted use of Zyklon B, was most certainly NOT an idea 'nicked from us'.

Churchill was less interested in defending mine or your rights then he was in holding onto what was left of a rapidly dwindling British Empire. But, that's the beauty of hindsight, i suppose. Would i have opposed the man in wartime Britain, absolutely not. That doesn't mean he's immune from scrutiny, though.

Thank god Churchill rallied the population in 1940 otherwise many of us would not be here today, he was no more a prick than some that have slated him on this site.
The problem with a lot of people is that when they look at things that happened in the past they apply todays moral code / language / etc. He was the right person in the right place at the right time. If WWII hadn't happened, in spite of his writing and early years, he would be a footnote in history

churchill made some terrible mistakes in his life like galipoli and the attack on norway in 1940 ,but one of the worst things he did was when england freed 250,000 russian soldiers from nazi slavery was by sending them back to there certain deaths under the hands of stalin ,so not to upset the americans ,a couple good books to read is ,i was churchills bodyguard, and anthonys suttons ,wall street and the rise of the third reich ,gives a good insight to 1930s ,and churchills part in world war 2 .but he was in many ways a great man Edited by blackgirl3 (29 Jan 2015 5.03pm) Edited by blackgirl3 (29 Jan 2015 5.04pm)

It is one thing to discuss Churchill and wartime Britain after the event but so many things went on during those times that censorship and propaganda removed so much of the truth. We heard of Coventry and the London docks, even more bombs fell on South London--but we never heard of the bombing which Hull suffered, possibly the worst in the country and yet people living through those dreadful times were kept in ignorance of those facts.
