I read earlier that Zaha fears that ( again ) he will be priced out of a move by Palace's valuation.

I really hope that does not turn out to be the case - we went down that road a year ago and Zaha's form last season reflected his disappointment at not getting a move.

I'm not advocating letting him go at a bargain price, but something a lot more realistic than the figures mentioned last summer.

What I really hope beyond anything else is that this doesn't turn into a big pantomime if no club offers a realistic fee for Wilf. If the stories are true then Arsenal only offered 45m for Wilf last summer which was never in a million years going to be accepted, especially with the sell-on clause. This summer if they offered that it might possibly be different, but without knowing a) how much United would take from the deal and b) how much we expect to have to pay for his replacement(s) and c) how much money we actually have for transfers, then whatever we think he is worth is irrelevant.

Given we are talking about paying 20m for a kid with no PL experience, the idea that we would accept 25m for a player who is regularly referred to as one of the best players outside the top 6 (by pundits) is quite frankly insane. We know he's had a bad season and that will impact the fee, but he's not suddenly become a bad player. Anything north of 50m I think is more realistic unless the club are desperate to sell. Whether anyone will pay that is another matter.

I was slightly bemused by Hodgson’s comment that Zaha was ‘poor’ after the lockdown, contrasting it with his form prior to the lockdown.
Strangely enough I thought he had three of his better games against Bournemouth, Man U and Chelsea.
Overall though it can’t be disputed that it has been his least effective season for Palace.
For clubs who use current stats to determine players that they pursue Zaha’s drop off in form may be a deterrent taking into account that he’s 28 in a few months and may not have a huge sell on value.
Parish won’t give him away though and Zaha’s only two years into a 5 year contract.
Somebody’s going to be unhappy at the conclusion of this saga.

Does Wilf still have that 25% sell-on clause with his old club? I think there was talk of it being waived as part of the AWB deal but I'm not sure it ever happened.

Unfortunately for Zaha, he is worth more to Palace than £50m, as he has paid a key part in keeping us in the Premier, which is worth circa £130m. That’s the difficult bit for the board to deal with.
If you had £50m to spend,would you buy Zaha with no resale value or Adams Traore at 24 with a good resale value?

With the Newcastle takeover collapsing perhaps we should turn the tables and bid for Saint Maximin.

We'll end up with Jordan Ibe because he's free and Saint Maximin, at 23, is a £40m+ player being looked at by the European sides. Way out of our league now, in much the same way Zaha is now out of Newcastle's.

With the number of signings we have to make, unless we get a huge wedge for Zaha (looks unlikely), I'd be really surprised to see us pay more than £15m for anyone.
