Yeah. This push for electric cars for all needs to be exposed for the sham that it is. Raw material mining is not only creating carbon emmissions, it is also destroying carbon sinks. Batteries need nickel. And copper. And lithium. And cobalt, manganese and... [Link]

[Link] I know but think of poor TFLs finances without all the bulls hit numbers about climate change which allow this scam. I fear too late it will be proved as such but cancel culture of opposing views and factual numbers will have created it for the world.

A new engine plant is being opened in the UK by Renault to develope diesel and petrol low emission hybrid vehicles. The saudi's may also join the venture, There seems to be a realisation that electric vehicles may not be answer and if oil is going to continue to be used it must be cleaner. This could also help with shipping.

But I think hybrid/low emissions was always going to be a better way to progress, rather than a wholesale shift to electric. Total shift to electric was never going to happen and was championed by political shareholders. who'd have thought ?
I disengage, I turn the page. |

To me it seems logical to run a car from batteries and charge them with a mix of the hybrid tech but with an engine backup that does not drive the wheels. Without a load the engine would not have to be large and would result in 100's of miles per gallon. I believe that this has already been done but for some reason was discontinued. All they need to do is clean up the emissions.

All they need to do is clean up the emissions. Basically they would be generators. The problem is that the largest practical generators are around 2-3kw. Even with 3 or 4 modified and linked it would only produce 12-15 kw. This would give about a 20 mile charge in an hour for an average EV. You would run out quicker than you would put it back. That’s why hybrids only have about 30 miles of electric once charged and primarily use fuel for propulsion. Lower emmisions is really the only way forwards. If given the stage a certain political party will try but fail in its zero emmisions drive by 2030.

It has a 300 mile range without stopping after a charge. With 40g/km CO2. It seems to work even with older tech. So now it should have a longer range and a lower ghg foot print. I fully expect this to be revisited.

The generator just extends this by 30 odd miles. Lower emissions than full petrol but still inconvenient.
