So patronising and so sneering. Pretty confident I have far more letters after my name than you do.

Oooooo! (holds handbag tightly to chest).

Not surprised you’re so scared and sneering at this current lot. They are smart. They are street wise. They have engagement, a direct channel to speak to the country through social media and they have the country on their side. Role models to hundreds of thousands of kids wanting to be just like them.

People like you aren’t just losing the argument you’re sinking without trace.

You just make assertions and half truths.

What utter tripe.

I don't think I'll be taking any notice of mings moralising.
When you're caught on camera stamping on another players face you cede the high ground.
To then do it again and put the bloke he did it to in hospital, well...
Should never have been allowed near the England team after that.

If that isn't bringing sport into politics, then what is? The IOC (International Olympic Committee) have apparently told athletes not to do the knee at Tokyo because it is a 'political gesture'.

When you have this confusion (FA says it isn't political) then no wonder people are confused, angry and simply fed up with it all.

This thread just shows what a bad plan taking the knee was. The abuse following penalties In euros and Wembley break in and booing national anthems shows over 30 years other than players salaries and costs to fans, little has changed.
With the current observed mentality the more done to try and support a sensitive issue the more friction it causes. Like this thread, I would close it, cease the knee and get players to boycott social media and focus on something else that does not allow the abuse. Maybe more time training which is what they are paid for.
I don’t use Twitter and it doesn’t ruin my life. In fact the opposite. Social media is far from perfect.

As another non-Twitter user, I agree with you on all this

I watched an Asian fellah on Apollo last night. Very funny. But if he had been white he would have been headlines on BBC and banned from comedy. This country needs to drop this whole racist thing and let it wash away naturally.

The whole incident after pens has shown there is still an issue of racism in this country. It wasn’t just online but also in the stadium.
Lifetime bans for people, ensure the people that abuse online are banned from football and have criminal records.
These people need to release that there behaviour is no longer tolerated in our society and should crawl back into the gutter.

The topic has bought out the worst in both sides - left & right - both on this thread and society.

Politics in sport had car crash written all over it and persisting with ‘the knee’ has magnified what was basically a non existent problem into something which now may actually be a problem. The FA & players are too dim to see what damage and friction this is causing. It will keep snowballing the longer it goes on. It’s put us back 20 years.

The Tokyo Olympics have got it right, and I’m sure all parties (left and right) now realise what a mistake this has been. Just as we’re getting over the divisions caused from Brexit, this just drives another wedge into society.

Agree that the thread should be closed. Sick to death of this topic which I can’t escape.

I agree with you dreamwaver, it does appear to be a one way street and, like Spider, I am not a social media user.

This whole frenzy around making a token gesture to oppose racism has gone too far and is now doing more harm than good. Wilf made a stand, but alone.

The inevitable fallout from Sunday will lead to calls for action. But the political gesture of 'taking the knee' alone is not enough although the players resolve to continue it will strengthen.

The yobs who invaded Wembley and the idiots who hide behind social media need to be identified and punished.

The vast majority in this country are very tolerant towards each other as is evident from the support we give to footballers of all nationalities and colour.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

This should conclude this thread

Since this thread has descended into little more than a personal slanging match for certain posters, it will now be locked whilst things calm down.

I am sorry that this will prevent reasonable posters from genuine debate.

Trust me they see it, and are continuing regardless - take from that what you will.
