This move isn’t without precedent, W Ham sacked Moyes, then went for Pellegrini who failed and they brought Moyes back.
Accepting that Vieira wasn’t working, he had more money spent on his squad than any previous manager and was being tactically outthought by other managers after season one and seem lost as what to do.
Hodgson is the perfect stop gap until the end of the season, he knows the players and the club, it doesn’t particularly matter about the style of football he plays, it’s a result’s business now.
There weren’t too many other decent options open to Palace with 10 games to go.

Well put.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

believe it or believe it not we have a better chance of staying up than watford did in Roys last job , he doesnt need to touch defence we do not let alot in so maybe his knowledge may have been PV short fall , think we are still going to stay up (but im ashamed to say i did put a free bet at 25s to go down odds was to tempting sorry) but more than happy to lose 250 winnings if we stay up if not will get 3 nice bottles of malt whiskey and cry into them if we go down.

he is only a stop gap till end of season we need a fire fighter and Roy is , cant think of anyone else

We were easy pickings for every team in the division. Our opponents would have prefered we stuck with PV

A 65% win rate against the teams below us would say otherwise, as would draws against Liverpool, Newcastle, and Man Utd. What we have been since Christmas is hard to break down with very little threat up top. Sound familiar? Welcome Mr Hodgson.

Ambrose pointed out a worrying stat that in the run in in Hodgson's final three seasons we played a combined 24 games, won 2, drew 2, lost 20. Either that means he doesn't have the energy for a full season, or his tactics aren't suited to when the stakes rise. I really hope it's the former, but I worry it's the latter. The one bright spot for me is that Paddy is assistant, not Lewington, and he seems to want a bit more blood & guts. Maybe he'll add some freshness to the R&R sandwich.

The reality is that it is a practical appointment at such a stage in the season with very few- if any - good other alternatives available.
Is it risky? Of course, any appointment is a risk, but on balance, the probability of him keeping Palace up is greater than going into freefall would be my view.

Nead

There were a host of other managerial options out there. To suggest otherwise is just twaddle.

Lets hope we get a new manager bounce.

Let's also hope we don't take the lead and sit back. It didn't work before and why would that change.

We should go for an attacking game at home and counter attack away.

10 men behind the ball at home V Bournemouth etc will be suicide.

We have 8 six pointers to play out of ten games. That's 8 cup finals as far as I'm concerned. Lets treat them as such. Starting on 1 April.

People forget that he's a really good coach and players like playing for him. He will be studying Leicester really carefully and prepared carefully. He will also be making sure that our front players get back and help to protect our defensive players

Poor decision, desperate move by a totally inept CEO.

We don’t have an easy run in at all. I’d rather be playing mid table teams the last 4 or 5 matches who are neither looking up or looking down. Instead we will be playing cup finals every week and we have neither the players, the energy, or the manager to do that.

The only conclusion I can draw from a Hodgson appointment is that we are pretty convinced we are likely to go down so we are waiting to employ a full time manager who is suitable for the Championship rather than the PL.

I’ll be glad when the season is done and Roy has finally gone forever. Then perhaps we can get back to watching some decent football whichever league it’s in.

A comfort to know that Roy has managed other clubs - and the England Team. Have to hope that he is in international mode, with a wish to see what every player can do. Please can he get all players to go all out on 1st April. Please could we have an Academy Striker on display from the start?

Bingo. The investors haven't invested to the degree that is necessary to wage a sustained campaign in the PL, i.e. a squad with enough depth to avoid flirting with relegation every season, and I suspect that once in the Championship all the dead wood will be cut free, salaries reduced, and the best from the Academy will make the starting line up alongside some cheapo additions and loans and those still here who are willing and able.
