This will be my 16th year on HOL.

It's certainly changed in that time, as you would expect.

Some excellent posters have gone and some excellent newcomers have taken their place.

Where I think it significantly differs from the ' old days ' is that the site seems to have lost it's sense of humour. Maybe that's a reflection of where the football club itself is these days....when I joined Palace were floundering, now we are in our 5th consecutive season in the PL - something we could only have dreamed about in 2002 !

Now it seems the order of the day is trying to score cheap points off of one another, differences of opinion quickly escalating into traded personal insults and a general lack of respect towards fellow members.

I enjoy HOL still and have always restricted myself to Palace Talk - I'm only interested in the football element of this site. I think where it starts to go wrong is in General Talk and all the political nonsense that accompanys it. So I don't go on it.

HOL to me it's a football website where I can exchange views on the subject that brings us together in the first place - CPFC. Perhaps restricting HOL to only football related topics would improve matters ?

I find it hard to understand that people can behave that badly on a website that there even has to be a card system in place !

Sorry, but I must be missing something too. Isn’t that the role of the Admin/Mod NOT to miss an abusive comment?

I won't miss his endless propaganda or his constant insinuations but this is a chat site and therefore not serious in relative terms. You came at this like people were being snowflakes about Nick's post and now you are being a prize one yourself.

Have you done now or is there anything else you wish to get off your chest to the wrong person?

Personally while I think Nick went too far with mods I'd just prefer if none of this had actually happened.

Free speech is very important, but things like seriously swearing at other posters has always been against the rules and if that wasn't the case then the board would quickly start to resemble a nursery for Millwall supporters.

Some posters though wanted more than that, I won't name names but we know who they were....they wanted posters banned for what they considered 'racist' or whatever other label they considered relevant that day.....in other words they wanted the site to resemble 'hate speech' laws, where if someone takes offence then that means it is offence.

I don't think a forum on current affairs and politics could realistically work like that....that would certainly see me go anyway.

We can all argue about posts being deleted. I've had comments deleted but it never really bothered me that much.....a mod's job is to regulate the site. If you aren't being carded then it's just regulating....but people have the right to moan about it to mods behind the scenes and I expect and hope they do listen as I've always found them reasonable people......but obviously in this case relationships hadn't been the best. I do think 'flouncing' posts shouldn't be deleted though...just as a point of principle unless they get too personal.

Having said all that we have lost some bloody good posters even if I differed politically and the fish tank looks less aesthetically pleasing as a result.

In time more fish will be added.....but I fear we lost a star fish in Jamie.

Well....not actually a star fish....unless he does actually have five arms.
