Another point, but apparently, 25% possession, 1 corner and 1 shot on target at home is close to rubbish. Brighton will be disappointed that they didn't win.
Whilst it was amusing that they lost a goal to VAR at 0-0, what we saw today was an advert for the way 2 different teams have gone about strengthening and progressing at this level. Brighton, and it hurts to say, are seeing the shoots of some shrewd scouting and good business.
Whereas with us, despite 10 years at this level, now very complacent and standing still, 2 newly acquired players on the bench, the biggest cheer of the day almost for the return of Macarthur (who I have always rated), but who is not the future, PV again making his statement to the board, selecting 2 goalkeepers on the bench, Luka and Riedewald on the bench.
Not difficult to see how we are the team that has run the shortest distances during games and certain players appear to be in a comfort zone.
Our build up play is so slow, playing out from the back so much, partly because we have a 36 year old goalkeeper who cannot kick and who must have been not a little relieved to see that goal lost to VAR as he did just watch it drift slowly into the net (I expect flak for that because like Wilf and Speroni in the day, he is a player that is, for some reason, so far above criticism, however I was directly above it and he didn't react at all), so many players today who had such poor first touches.
With our self-imposed limited squad depth, surely it would have made sense to perhaps have recalled a loan or two during the window because I am certainly not convinced that any of those young players could have put in less effort today than Olise or Mateta and perhaps in the case of Rak-Sakhyi and Kymani-Gordon, they might know where the goal is !
The summer will again be a time change and uncertainty with a large number of players out of contract, will Mr Textor's money again keep the wolf from the door ?
We may have avoided relegation by then, but how many of the fans I wonder, feel that any real progression or growth is possible at this level without new owners/direction ?
I am not suggesting hurtling the club again into an unsustainable financial position but the time has gone now where it is possible to compete at this level on the cheap.

Textor isn't a wealthy man, net worth of about 300m, Blitzer and Harris have net wealth's of about 8 billion, but are not interested.

Most of us I think are happy to escape with a point at home to Brighton.
That is where we are at the moment.
We have watched Fulham, Brentford and Brighton overtake us in aspiration.
We can still match or better them with smart acquisitions and coaching, but that's what has to happen.
For example Mitchell and Olise did ok today, but just ok.
On the other hand March dominated the match for them playing in the same position as Olise.
Their left back created their goal, had a disallowed goal and hit a stream of crosses from advanced positions whereas Mitchell hardly crossed the halfway line.
We have to get more from our players to progress- not just ok.

and the new buy and the loan dont look like what was needed, and i cant believe PV didnt have any input into the new players.

A game of small margins. If Eduoard had managed to play a simple return ball to Ahmada towards the end he would have been clean through on goal. If he sticks it away we win a game and everyone would be calling him the second coming.

Let's be honest chaps, we got flippin' lucky again today. I'm almost getting used to them being significantly better than us, but somehow we get a pointt or even a win that any neutral would say we didn't deserve. I suppose that is a good habit but it would nice to see us actually play well against them...

Well, it was a dire goalkeeping error . If not we'd have lost again. But we're without Wilf and Anderson, and without Jimmy Mac, although he was at least on the bench. Our two new midfielders both got game time. I'm sure a lot of us remember the early days in the PL when we'd be one point above the drop zone until the end of the season? I'm sure we'll pick up points throughout the rest of the season, and we're not going to play top six sides every week. The overall trajectory is towards survival, but of course we'd all like a lot more than that. But this season, frankly it's a case of limping over the finishing line, then hopefully bring some talent in over the summer, and go again. The Brightons and the Brentford's have done brilliantly and we have to emulate what they do with our own unique character in the mix. Loads of clubs in the PL have a lot more resources than we do. It ain't easy

Agree, if we can just limp over the line this season then regroup next season. On the positive side,if Brighton cant beat us when we play that badly then when will they.

The current form exhibited by Mitchell clearly epitomizes how
the team has gone backwards over the season. It is hard to
believe that he was ever selected to play for England.
Brighton looked totally different class today playing attractive
fluid football. They could easily won 5-0.
Mateta is a major weakness. He cannot control, cannot pass and
cannot use his head
Luckily Tompkins was there to level the score. Mateta may
have missed.
The only good thing about today is that Jimmy Mac may be back.

Viera incessantly talks about "Performance" in his interviews.
"Performance", "Performance".....
Today's performance was deplorable and we were presented with a goal.
At home, 25% possession, 1 corner and 1 shot on target - Totally unacceptable.

Supporters felt positive when Vieira arrived, the narrative was all about a change of style and more progressive football, sadly we have returned to the days when we ground out results.

1 win in 11 games in all competitions and that was against lowly Bournemouth. It is only a matter of time before the likes of Wolves,Leicester, W.Ham and others overhaul us in the table.
We have regressed and supporters today were critical of our manager with one bellowing out that it is time to wave the white handkerchiefs around the ground.

On that note I shall now depart for a tipple or two.

Same boat buddy , it would be boring winning every match , im very disappointed that we got out played by those Nigels , i cant stand em, i just hate the way we roll over so easy without any passion or pride and the players or manager didn't even seem to care at full time it was all smiles and jokes . Having said that id rather be Palace than owned by some billionaires that butcher their own and have no respect for women .

I thought the strutting pr!ck Sanchez for Brighton looked great with his feet. He only had to use his hands once in the entire game. Our GK was our best player today.

Well, I'm chuffed to bits! We got a valuable point against an in-form and very good team. A little jammy, maybe, but so pleased for Steve Tomkins who was in the right place at the right time.

Not a pretty performance but we were without Anderson, Zaha, Richards, Wardy, and gave a run out to our two new midfielders. Great to see McArthur on the bench too.

And despite this we didn't lose to Brighton - what a great result - I'm celebrating!

As for relegation, definitely not this year. There are more than three teams who have bigger problems than we do.

With our limited budget we are performing a flipping miracle!

After 55 years of supporting this club I know that this is the longest period of success we've had, and Palace continue to exceed my expectations.

Patrick Vieira is still a novice in PL tearms but I'm enjoying the football so much more than the Roy Hodgson years.
