Going nowhere at the moment is good. Especially if it's not down.

Going nowhere at the moment is good. Especially if it's not down. As has been the situation for the best part of 8 years. Seriously, is that the limit of your expectations? For 8 seasons our objective has been to retain a place in the PL. I've been OK with that to a degree. I just wonder if that is the most we can ever hope for? Probably it is. Fcuking miserable though don't you think?
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

Not half as miserable as watching us continually fail to beat Shrewsbury in front of 5,000 fans. When we beat United second game of the season there were people bitching on here and still going on about the post lockdown run. That's not the manager or clubs fault.

Well he resigned straight after the game which would suggest he felt some degree of responsibility. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (23 Jan 2021 10.38pm) Do you really think he resigned out of his own free will? He is a national embarrassment and had there was no way he was going to keep his job as England manager. He knew he was going to get sacked and ripped appart by the media, rightly so on both counts too. Jumped before he was pushed. If he had any dignity he'd have left after the first round world cup exit. "I don't have any intention to resign," said Hodgson, 66. "I've been really happy with the way the players have responded to the work we've done." Hodgson saying he was happy - despite our worst ever word cup performance. Out in the first round after two games, then drawing with Costa Rica. Edited by jeeagles (24 Jan 2021 8.25am)

Times moves on and Shrewsbury at home was a different era. I think that’s the crux of the two camps of palace fans those happy to settle for what we currently have and those that want to see the club at least have a plan or strategy of how it wants to keep moving forward. 8 seasons in the premier league and we are still so stagnant with no obvious steps forward apart from the academy which is fantastic. If we go down what have we got to show for for the circa £1B come through the coffers? I know there has to be a sense of realism of where we and what we are and have sensible and attainable expectations but if this is al we can aspire to then what’s the point of it all. Roy is only part of the problem.

There might be a significant amount of our supporters who believe that Mr Hodgson having met his objectives and kept us in the PL for successive seasons should not be referred to in terms that assert he is part of a "Problem".

I don't agree that the Pro Hodgson camp is happy to settle for what we currently have.I think we would all like to see more attractive football and look for incremental improvement rather than treading water as we do at present. I think you're on the right lines in your second paragraph though. At the risk of continuing to repeat myself, Roy is the effect, not the cause of the problem.

Edited by jeeagles (24 Jan 2021 8.25am) Croydon Roy obviously lives in his own little universe, here's something from his Blackburn days courtesy of Wikipedia: As Hodgson later explained, Blackburn's owner gave him the chance to resign honourably, but he refused to do so, leaving the club with no option but to dismiss him: "To Blackburn's honour, Jack Walker wanted me to resign, he wanted to still pay for the rest of my contract. He said, 'Why don't you resign? You've had enough, it's not working out.' I refused to do that, arrogant of course as I was in those days. I thought if they stuck with me I'd save them from relegation. I do think that the players were very much still with me, so I couldn't resign because that would be a suggestion that in some way I was doing something or something was happening which I didn't see to be the case or the truth. I gave him no choice but to sack me".[34] His final game was a home defeat by Southampton.[ Edited by southnorwoodhill (24 Jan 2021 10.32am)

The quotes in the last two posts are illustrative and demonstrate why Hodgson can be seen as arrogant and deluded.

Think along these lines ; Your tried and trusted methods enable you to achieve your objective. You have no intention of retiring while you are still getting satisfaction from your job. In other words, you want to keep your job. Where's the incentive to change ?

I accept that this would be Hodgson’s view absolutely.
