I forgot how much the horse lovers love to vote for these things. 3rd & 5th to equestrian.

I wish we had a world number one in something more exciting than wearing white shorts and hitting a yellow ball at another posh weed in white shorts. If there's a less 'cool' sport than tennis I am yet to see it.

I don't think anyone could begrudge Nick Skelton his 3rd place - 40 years in top class competition, broken neck in 1999 and told he would never be able to ride again and then comes back 17 years on to take an Olympic medal: now that's what I call a sportsman!

Surely Mo Farrah deserved to win? One of the greatest athletes in the world. Winning double gold at two Olympics was an amazing achievement. Can't help but think that for some people his name and his colour played a part in the voting. I hope I'm wrong.

The fact a Scottish ginge won it proves no discrimination has taken place.

I think it was fair enough, he won Wimbledon and Olympic Gold, his match in that final against Juan Martin del Potro was an unbelievable 4 hour slugfest, and he's world number 1.

You are probably wrong, there are a lot of people who have doubts about his achievements, I am one. It may or may not be justified but he has been closely associated with too many cheats over the past few years. Throw in the contempt he showed for the London Marathon, the fact that he is now based in America (allegedly for tax reasons) and you have someone that perhaps people don't feel connected to. Chris Froome is as equally successful but again doesn't seem to have a connection with the public. I think Murray was a worthy winner but would have like Brownlee to win

I know what you mean, but I'll bet there were a few paralympians in the crowd thinking - a broken neck (that got fixed), is that all? Particularly Sophie Cristiansen who now has 8 gold medals while dealing with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and a whole load of other issues.

Wiggins wouldn't have won it without the TdF win, nor Murray without Wimbledon. Chris Hoy got it in 2008 because he won 3 golds, in a time when we weren't getting quite the same levels of success as we have since.
