Celebrated the 10th anniversary of the HOL in the Barrow Boy just before Christmas 2009. It was unbelievably crowded but not too many current HOL posters there - before their time I guess.

An incredible snowstorm hit the City area at about 8pm and we all hoped we would be snowed in and have to stay there drinking till emergency services arrived.

But it melted so we all went home.

Give me a traditional pub any day with a 'Snug', low beams and carpet on the floor.

These days the trend seems to be to convert pubs into 'Gastro Pubs' with wooden floors and a much more modern look etc etc.

always been a crap pub..there are some decent boozers still around london bridge/southwark, the kings arms in newcomen street or the lord nelson in union street spring to mind...the prince william henry on blackfriars road isnt bad...the founders arms by blackfriars bridge is very rubbish, id rather sit on the river with a can of lager then drink in there

I recall The Dulwich Woodhouse underwent a similar change around 7 years ago. The 'drinkers' bar was turned into a dining area and dogs were banned and children allowed.
Turned into an awful place where they served a portion of chips (six of them) in a poxy mug. Remember seeing a big buy turn on staff for only giving him 2 small roast potatoes on his Sunday Lunch plate.

Always liked the Barrow Boy and Banker, but obviously diners have more money to spend than us poor drinkers.
Drinkers are a dying breed so to speak

I disengage, I turn the page.
