Brexit is a ready excuse. The company statement actually specifically listed fuel and carbon offset costs, with nonspecific Brexit "uncertainty" shoe horned in as a deflection. EU’s recent decision to exclude UK airlines from full participation in the Emissions Trading Scheme. These issues have undermined efforts to move the airline into profit. This is brexit.

A business owner. We'll be ok, that's my job: find opportunities. Where we've done well this past year is partnering with a German company to be their boots on the ground in the UK post Brexit, and we're in talks with another German company to the same end. The uncertainty works both ways. As a small company, Brexit is actually serving us well so far. We're exporting products (albeit on a small scale) for the first time due to the weak pound.

The Parent Company accounts are overdue. I don't think the CAA like loss making airlines. Edited by chris123 (16 Feb 2019 9.28pm)

They didn't win a couple of key tenders to be carriers on routes that are their bread and butter. The routes went to other low cost carriers on price (probably easy jet or Ryan Air). This isn't Brexit. This is a stack em high flog em cheap model where they failed to get the numbers. They could've adjusted their model this past three years and didn't.

i fail to see how this is the fault of brexit. more the fact that more MOR airlines like monarch are struggling shows the market isnt there anymore. i am more than happy to fly ryanair over bmi/flybe etc etc when the prices are so cheap, and at the end of the day its only a few hours of your life to save a decent amount of money.

Yeah Do you misunderstand deliberately or are you just not very bright? Brexit is a convenient excuse for poor managers to blame to cover up their own deficiencies The airline has been lossmaking for a few years and was flying to places that weren't as popular as larger airlines flew to (shades of Monarch) What made me smile was that despite a press release stating that rising fuel costs were the main reason for the bankruptcy most of the lefty and anti Brexit media lead with a headline blaming Brexit. Still I suppose that the remainer mugs will believe any tripe that they are fed by a media with a vested interest Edited by Midlands Eagle (17 Feb 2019 7.21am)

It isn't There are a number of European budget airlines in trouble including Norwegian Air and I guess that when they finally collapse they will try and blame Brexit as well It's interesting to note that when Primera Air went bust last October they were somewhat more honest and blamed everything except Brexit

No amount of abuse can hide the fact that brexit is a disaster. How can anyone justify running a country or business or any concern where it doesn't know what its trading arrangements are four weeks ahead. Mindless moron brexit.
