I imagine Parish can't sack someone face-to-face before 11 am because he needs a couple of hours in the morning to lever himself into his ill-fitting suits before he goes outdoors. As someone said on here more eloquently than me a few weeks ago, "Parish looks like a 14-year-old whose mum has let him loose in River Island with her credit card". That's about the finesse he brings to running the club, too.

Really sounds like there's more than meets the eye. You can't help but read between the lines and look at the performances, then realise something's been going on since Christmas. Seems a usual Palace mess. Why was Veira 'supposedly' considering the Leeds job and why were Palace 'supposedly' happy to let him go? It doesn't sound like a harmonious relationship to me. Probably something to do with lack of activity in the transfer market for PV and certainly lack of results for the board.

If your key employee is openly thinking about another job and you'd be quite happy for him to take it then it doesn't take Einstein to work out that you want to be rid of him but you're too cheap and/or spineless to do the job or removing him yourself. Totally pathetic. And you wonder why we're in the position we're in? Fact one about any organisation: garbage at the top, garbage at the bottom.

Our American investors have vast wealth and more than enough funds. The problem is the lack of AVAILABLE funds. We have owners that don't support (by which I mean don't "invest in" their business. That's the problem.

You know the interesting thing? Sometimes it takes adversity to steel the mind. Our investors have been happy to sit back and ignore their investment in recent years because they felt, in Parish, they had a safe pair of hands to run things for them; a pair of hands that didn't really ask for much. The past twelve months have proved them wrong. You may be right in what you say, but it may also be true that the incompetent leadership of the past ten months has persuaded them that they need to focus and invest, if only to protect their original investment. What's happening now (and for that matter, much of what's being written on the forums which, no doubt, our investors read directly or indirectly) plays extremely badly for Parish. We already know Textor isn't in league with him. Maybe Textor now persuades Harris and Blitzer that his mistrust was right, and that it's time for a change of leadership. If Textor, Harris, and Blitzer who presumably own around 75% of the club between them decide it's time for new CEO then Parish is gone. Hope springs eternal.

That would be typical Palace - Investors suddenly realise they need to do something & reach for the cheque book only to realise that there isn't another transfer window until the Summer when by then it might be too late - Originally posted by sydtheeagle

The Forest game was obviously a disappointment, but the performances following the WC break were really unsettling - (Fulham / Tottenham / Southampton in the cup) it felt as though the wheels had fallen off, maybe there was stuff going on behind the scenes that affected the players more than anyone realised at the time - In a French accent “ team, I haven’t got a scooby what to do but Michael you can be left back and wilf centre mid, Jeff my room later and Jordan knock before entering. Anyhow just don’t concede and we can 0-0 our way to safety.”

If not surprised I think Pat was probably relieved and expecting it for some time. That said, in the future what I’d like SP and Co. to do is throw stones at his bedroom window, late at night, and play the Righteous Brothers’ ‘you’ve lost that loving feeling’ on a boombox held overhead.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

It doesn't look as Textor has any money if you believe the fans of his other clubs. The other American owners don't appear to want to fund the club either as they are more interested in buying another PL club. In the last window there were rumours that Textor wanted to spend and Parish didn't, what we don't know was where the money is coming from. Was Textor saying let's borrow against the club and hope for the best (ala Glaziers) in which case Parish was right to say no. I can see Parish being voted out but I am not sure this will be good for the club.

Was Textor saying let's borrow against the club and hope for the best (ala Glaziers) in which case Parish was right to say no. I can see Parish being voted out but I am not sure this will be good for the club. My understanding is Textor runs a fund that invests in sports teams. So not, it's not his money (well, some of it is as he owns shares in the fund) but investing in sports teams is what that money is for, be it Palace or another team. Obviously, investors want a return so they're not going to simply fund the clubs in which they invest a la Abramovich, but on the other hand they are risk averse so the last thing they'd want to do is risk their investment through relegation. That's probably why Textor wanted to spend in January. He saw the risk (or not buying in the window) that Parish clearly did not. Harris and Blitzer operate on the same basic model as Textor, also running a sports investment fund. The difference is that their funds is far bigger and contains vastly more of their own money, because they're vastly wealthier than Textor is. Ironically, they do have the money to spend freely on Palace but they're, as you say, much less willing to spend it. I think we have two hopes: 1. All or some combination of Harris, Blitzer, and Textor now realise from the experience of flirting with relegation this season that not spending creates a threat to the value of their asset and therefore, whether they're enthusiastic about doing so or not, they spend far more than they have in the past (until they can sell the club), starting this summer, or... 2. Having failed with their Chelsea bid and almost certain to fail with their Man. Utd, bid, Harris and Blitzer decide "well, if we can't get hold of a big club, we'll have to make something out of Palace". Well, roughly like that. Sometimes a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Just maybe, two failed bids for other clubs returns their focus to and enthusiasm for Palace. Likely? Maybe not. But you can hope. It's not impossible. One thing, though, is certain. Perhaps for different reasons, it's in none of the owner's interests to see Palace relegated. It'd cost them far more to go down than it would to invest a little more in the team and stay up. That's a lesson we have to hope they've learned with the experience of this season.
