Missed this!

If my memory serves me correctly he was doing his job and seeking to put a positive gloss on the way the report was presented. That's what spin doctors do. I don't like them very much but the fact remains that he wasn't making policy, he was presenting it in the best possible light.

And yes I do think the Iraq war was legal and that the attacks on Blair totally unjustified. I think Blair's primary role was to try to moderate Bush's responses whilst providing support. We won't really know until all the records are unsealed.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

It may have been a good idea to read your link before posting it. Clearly it is based on an alliance, and indeed states the deployment of troops into harm’s way “remains the ultimate sovereign decision of a national government”

And it isn't AGAINST the US, it states:

The French president said that Europeans can no longer rely on the US to defend them in response to President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of a landmark 1987 nuclear treaty with Russia that effectively protects Europe from nuclear weapons.

It also says this is a complement to NATO.

Which is complete and utter rubbish and is in fact anti US sentiment.

Something that is very very evident, not only in the EU I might add.

I completely reject it and it isn't the majority British position at all.....We have never said anything even close to what those t*** Merkel and Macron said.

The idea that we would have to go along with their positions within the EU makes my skin crawl.

OK. If you don't think we need a range of ways to defend ourselves and should be content to rely on just one overseas power, it is your right to hold such a view.

Having worked a great deal with the MoD I hold different views.

I contest the idea that the majority of British people are happy relying solely on the US for our protection.

Anything good on Al Jazeera tonight is there? Fecking hell.

We don't only 'rely' on the US....But you know what we also don't do....We don't frigging put our names to stupid comments by Macron and Merkel.

Ah Boris. His run of terrible form continues, with a lovely u-turn thrown in to the mix for good measure.

No-Deal a failure of statecraft eh? Thought it was a walk in the park. Some would say a better option than a deal. Not so now according to the Brexiteers latest pin up. Well at least he was.

Interesting from Farage – suggesting Mays deal could be back on the table while getting round the backstop by 'hiving' off norn iron. Can't wait to see his rabid little power hungry toad face groking back into the picture very soon.

This is some leaping off the fence.

Got bored. For balance, The remainers pin up boy is hardly fairing much better. Reality check for both sides. i.e. there is no obvious solution, unless you're a partisan hack.

I'm still keeping my powder dry though. Johnson doing what he does best is simply flavour of the month. And I've always despised him. Priti Patel is also a complete moron, who should not be anywhere near the front bench based on her shady history.

Fair enough.....You don't like the only two I do....You and your anti jingoism.

You want centralism with a leftist tinge perhaps?.....Something tells me that centrism of either sort are gone. When you look at both main parties they are beginning to better represent their bases which are pretty polarised.

Tis the Internet.
