Sadly I can only see this ending one way now. It's all very well saying the player should stay and honour his contract but the reality is that it becomes unsettling for the rest of the squad knowing that Zaha is there against his will. We can't and shouldn't offer him another pay rise to stay and in any case it's apparently not all about the money. And the special relationship that I thought and hoped was there between Wilf and the fans, for me anyway, is tarnished and won't ever be the same. So let's just try to screw every last pound out of Arsenal, who as I suspected, have a little more than £45m as their summer budget. No way should we just accept whatever Arsenal can offer - as much as anything else, it signals to other clubs who want to poach our players that we're pushovers. Arsenal can increase their budget by selling players, or augment the deal by giving us players that we want, but if we sell Wilf for less than AWB we'll look a laughing stock and not have enough money to replace them both.

Let us remember when we sell Wilfried Zaha 25% will go to Manchester United so a sales price of £80m will be net £60m to Palace (less any agents cut). Lets hope the Gunners have the money and are not firing blanks. Isn’t the player’s agent fee paid by the buying club, which is what Simon Jordan made so much noise about?

Glad you're not running the club. Another post straight from the football manager 2019 game handbook. I've only got £20, so should they take that for him? He's worth at least £60million, if they've not got it tough s***. This.

It's my opinion that Palace will sell Zaha and I have explained the rationale behind my way of thinking. I see you've reverted back to the cheap, insulting comments, but that's all you really have to offer isn't it.

Exactly. They can't say they haven't got the money when they also offered 20/25 million for Tierney. They have at least 75m based on the offers they've made so far. It's up to them if they want to spend it all on Wilf. If they don't then that tells Wilf how much they really want him. Also, if the likes of Leicester and West Ham can continue spending big I don't believe for one minute a club of Arsenal's size cannot dig out another 20/30m if they want to.

They’ll find it. Or £70 plus £20-30 mil of achievable add-ons and not stupid ones.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha wants out' by Midlands Eagle I gotta be honest and I doubt it'll be popular but... 60mil and Reiss Nelson & I'd take it. Wilf wants to go & he deserves his chance to play at the (almost) top level again. I wouldn't stand in his way & I'm fairly certain he would've made assurances when signing those contracts that he eventually would want to play European football. All of a sudden we have 60mil in the bank plus a very highly rated young English prospect who will get his chance. We go out and get Saint-Maximin & spend the rest on a proper centre forward. All of a sudden it doesn't look too bad. Even in today's wildly overinflated market, you have to remember Wilf & AWB are homegrown players, they come at a premium and £110m is still a hell of a lot of money to play with for a of our club our size. This could be the first time we really get to see if DF is worth his salt or not. As for Wilf, I'd love him to stay. As I'm sure we all would. But he wants to go. Every player wants to compete at the top. We cannot begrudge him at all. He's given us everything & I think it would be absolutely tragic for the club & him to part with even a scintilla of resentment. Edited by Mstrobez (04 Jul 2019 9.39am)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha wants out' by Midlands Eagle Wilf is far from stupid. He knows what he is worth in today's market and that we won't sell him for less. I don't doubt that he would like to test himself in the Champions League but he also seems reluctant to move away from London again. So this all seems like an attempt to draw out interest from Spurs to me. Arsenal don't have either the money or the CL position and Chelsea still cannot buy, unless they find some creative way around their ban. Spurs seem to suddenly be splashing some cash and moving players out so it's just possible I suppose.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |
