If we'd already had a bid of £25m rejected (which seems to be generally acknowledged), why in the name of all that's holy would we offer £23m? If true, I wouldn't call that 'tough negotiating', but more rank stupidity. Assuming everything reported is true (definitely just an assumption) then it sounds like we are trying to save a couple of million whilst running the risk of losing several million if we scupper our entire season during the negotiation period. I've always thought of SP as shrewd and not been on the bandwagon of people slagging him off, but IF (big IF) this is really true, then this is not shrewd at all. This is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
