For me it is the 1970 World cup with a Brazil side led by Pele and Carlos Alberto. Absolutely fantastic stuff and the great Gordon Banks save on Pele to boot. Plus Franz Beckenbauer playing with his arm strapped to his side due to a bad shoulder injury and no subs available. The Brazilian 1970 side was, quite simply, the best team ever to compete in the world cup. Pele, Jairzinho, Tostao, Gerson, Rivelino, Carlos Alberto.... A veritable "who's who" of the greatest players ever. And they destroyed arguably the best ever Italian side in the final.

It just all depends what age you are as to what your favourite World Cup will be. If England can reach the semi finals in this one, it will surely be up there with the greats

I could only remember Pele and Carlos Alberto (Torres) because they played for the NY Cosmos! Edited by kenbarr (05 Jul 2018 6.22pm)

I’ve certainly got a new found respect for this England team after with standing the provocation the other night, digging in when we looked finished, and not bottling it in the shoot out!! Messers Stones, Young, Alli, Dier and Maguire, I take back all I said,,,,,,,,until they play palace again anyway!!! Really enjoying the whole World Cup and England putting one over on that dirty, cheating Whining lot has made it all the better!!

I've just read that the temperature on Saturday in the England game will be 30 degrees! That is far higher than the previous venue.

That last game was horrible, we looked the better side then at the end they suddenly looked great, worked together and pulled off a last minute miracle. It felt like a movie but where we are the bad guys and we all know how most of those movies end... But we did it! I think we will beat Sweden in extra time, just a gut feeling...

Good job we’re playing Sweden then, because they’ll fancy the heat even less than us!! What do you mean us kemosabe They do tan nicely though. For those too young to remember the Lone Ranger and his faithful comrade Tonto (a native American): The LoneRanger & Tonto are riding down into a box canyon. At the far end, the LoneRanger notices an army of Comanche Indians, in full war-paint, frowning down from the cliff walls at him. Turning to his left he notices a great number of very mad looking Arapaho Indians staring down. On his right he observes a host of Cherokee Indians peering at him over the rim of the canyon. Looking behind, he sees every Apache brave in the world slowly creeping into the canyon, blocking the exit. The LoneRanger turns to Tonto and says, "We're in a heap of trouble, Tonto!" Tonto's nervous reply, "Uhh...who do you mean we, kemosabe?" Edited by johnno42000 (06 Jul 2018 2.48pm) Edited by johnno42000 (06 Jul 2018 2.49pm)

That will also be the temperature in London on Saturday. The World's gone crazy. I quite happily criticise players for getting paid an obscene amount but to run around for 90 minutes in that sort of heat must take some doing.
