Very good point. I'm not sure of all the intricacies of the transfer window but it may well be as you say; so we won't need to get the deal sealed by tonight's deadline.

He's not a free agent though, he'll still be under contract with Everton. We'll take over his contract if we sign him but he is still attached at this moment so I think the usual rules apply. Looks unlikely.

Shame. I think that Everton can still cancel his Contract so that he could sign on a free for us. Seems unlikely though.

Am I right in thinking he would have to be released by Everton to then join us as a free agent. He will only do that if Everton don't want him and if we match his wages for the next 6 months.?
