I'd designate any of the half time penalty taking kids over Benteke. Everyone in the ground knew that was never going in ... well everyone except the penalty taker himself !! Edited by Terry Vegetables (10 Dec 2017 5.29am)

Some people have pointed out that Dann wasn't the captain after Sakho went off & indicated that Speroni was. If so, he should have joined the rest of the players & demanded that the ball be given to Luka. There was no leadership at the crucial point - Jules would've been doing the right thing & maybe Benteke would have not overruled him at least.

No right answers to how you deal with a player openly defying his manager's instructions to the point of requiring physical intervention; and 100% his fault.

Can't believe the amount of melons blaming Dann for poor captaincy....HE WASN'T THE CAPTAIN!!! The point isn't over if Luka would have missed it or Not, the whole point is that Benteke has gone against his manager and team mates. Luka is the designated taker, if he missed it then no ond cares. He has put himself before the rest of the club, even if he had scored I would still expect some sort of punishment. I don't want to see him put the shirt on again.

The question of who takes a penalty should never arise at a professional PL club. It's not Sunday league. The designated taker should be decided and that should be the end of it.

Benetke needs to get on the score sheet at Watford that's for certain. I understand why he wanted to take it, but he at least had to make it 'hard to save'. He needs a goal, badly, and its like a drought for him - and now its even worse. Needs to man up, and put in a top gear shift for the next game, and make amends.

As for Benteke's penalties, he is not the cleanest striker of a ball I have seen and I look back at that missed penalty at Watford in Allardyce's first game in charge - same technique,same result and once again cost us maximum points.
