Eze could well end up on the left if Zaha is sold during the summer.. I cannot see us retaining Gallagher at all, so he will need replacing. I wonder if we will make a move fro O'Brien at Huddersfield. We were apparently interested in this youngster at Birmingham (Jordan James ?) as well, but I don't know if he is same type of player as Gallagher.

Eze could well end up on the left if Zaha is sold during the summer..

I cannot see us retaining Gallagher at all, so he will need replacing. I wonder if we will make a move fro O'Brien at Huddersfield.

We were apparently interested in this youngster at Birmingham (Jordan James ?) as well, but I don't know if he is same type of player as Gallagher.

Lewis O'Brien is on our radar but also on the radar of quite a few PL clubs. Apropos Jordan James he does bring energy to the team and travels with the ball but he is only 17 and has played less than 20 games for Birmingham so very inexperienced.

Lewis O'Brien is on our radar but also on the radar of quite a few PL clubs.

Apropos Jordan James he does bring energy to the team and travels with the ball but he is only 17 and has played less than 20 games for Birmingham so very inexperienced.

Yet if he goes I do agree now is the time to put on a couple of contenders from academy OR will Eze find that similar bite that Conor has remains to be seen.I see it in James Mc but not any other midfielder/ attacker.

Whilst our football has been way more entertaining than previous seasons we are growing & certainly there are players whom will struggle at the level yet again yoy.

Who is Patrick thinking to sell I wonder ?

I would love CG to stay although it looks like he will be part of the Chelsea squad next season. Whether that is a good career move only time will tell. What is clear is that we need a CG type player and we don't currently have one, his energy was sorely missed against Chelsea. One more point

Hughes and Kouyate will replace that energy that CG gives, and provide some space and solidity behind Eze for him to work. I don't view Hughes as a "High energy" player.
He is the playmaker who gets the ball and finds a teammate but he lacks that burst of pace, is somewhat one-paced, and is not one who heads,tackles and runs all over the pitch.

Replacing Gallagher doesn't necessarily mean we will try to bring in a similar type of player. There aren't many of his type around. That was clear against Chelsea when we played Kouyate in a back 3 and during the AFCON when we lost him for a whole month. Of the midfielders we have now none of them can replace Kouyate in this role with the same effectiveness. Luka is well past his best, McArthur and Hughes are more a box to box players, Schlupp is a jack of all trades and a master of none, and Riedewald doesn't appear to have the management team's trust. Rather than throwing all our transfer budget at Gallagher I would prefer if we spent money on a right back (let's face it Ferguson is a bust), and two young midfielders - another tenacious box to box player to replace McArthur and and most importantly a holding midfielder to eventually replace Kouyate. Really simplistically the difference is if I’m facing Eze as a defender I’m scared when he has the ball and is running at me , when I’m facing Gallagher I’m scared when I have the ball that the annoying little b’locks is going to pop up and nick it.
