Doesn't sound good for the future of the EU when Carl Juncker refers to Cameroon, Boris and Sir Nigel as "Rats leaving a sinking ship!"

I thought the EU had a few more years before it sunk without trace under the weight of it's own bureaucracy and corruption.

Who knew?

Its a good analogy. They lasted less than a week after 'masterminding the future of the UK' before effectively ruling themselves out of the future of the UK.

Probably because their colleagues and they themselves, realised that in that 'coming future' they're election position, given the statements and promises (i.e. lies and deceptions) they issued to the people over what would happen with a Brexit (or at least the certainty with which they denied certain issues such as economic impact and trade negotiations etc).

Scapegoats for a victory by any means. Gove will be next under the bus. When it comes time to sell the 'sell out' of the leave vote (such as when the Conservative party accept freedom of movement or some degree of free movement, for remaining in the EFTA / EEA).

Whoosh..........

The analogy compares the EU to a sinking ship.... forget about the rats.

That wasn't a personal insult to you anyway - it was an observation in retaliation to what I felt having read your smug post to Slovenia Dave. You'll know when I'm insulting you!

Why would you want to "get to me"? Why not have an adult debate without the need to "get at" people?

Everyone else is slowly coming round to the idea, but not you and your daughter it seems.

I believe I have always said everyone has their reasons for how they vote. Some people are better able to cope with the initial and inevitable financial and political shock than others.

What I have said is that your personal self-interest has f*cked me and mine, and also that of my children. Maybe one day we will look back and say it was all worthwhile, but that certainly won't be in the next five years. We are going to have a whole world of sh*t during those years.

What I have also said is that the referendum didn't appear to run well, lots of lies and populism. As a result I predict many people will not achieve what they set out to achieve through their vote.

I refute that the post you refer to was smug, I said that it would be unwise to ignore the will of the people. I believe you too have said that.

And as for me saying it's nice if I am getting to you, that was said with irony. I don't want a personal battle with anyone on here, we are all Palace. Indeed, I am missing Matt Himself, despite disagreeing with him in almost every possible way.

Similarly I don't like it when people are rude about me and especially when people state my daughter is spoiled without the slightest knowledge of her circumstances. The lack of respect shown to young people on this site in general beggars belief. They are spoken of as a 'they' not as a 'we' or 'our'. Quite strange and disappointing.

Fortunately in Europe age discrimination laws cover discrimination against young people, unlike in the US where they only cover discrimination against older people.

But you have "dissed" old people before on here Maple.

Despising their rights to a pension after working all their lives, and living in their own homes that they have bought and paid for etc.

I study nature and notice that animals rely on the old ones of the herd.... particularly elephants who look to the oldest matriarch in times of severe drought as she is likely to be the only one with the knowledge to lead them to water in those circumstances based on her lifetime of experience.

As you know, those people with DC pension schemes have been hit hard recently and that will continue, fuelled by Brexit.

Those people in DB schemes that have not yet retired are not necessarily immune to the economy.

But those taking their DB pensions are bullet-proof, they take no hit whilst their companies struggle to make up the gulf in the pension pot and reduce investment as a result. That is what I have said, that is what I believe. Retirees with DB schemes aren't in the same world as the rest of us.

A reassuring thought if history regularly repeats itself. Won't help much if the 'herd' has to face something completely new and game changing.

Your last para.... compare that with those EU migrants over here that your sort want to be given guarantees that they can stay here after we leave EU.

Why are they any more deserving to stay in our country than those retirees with DB schemes are allowed to keep their promised pensions after a lifetime of hard work?

Seems to me that for some bizarre reason you want to penalise those that have been the backbone of our society for 50+ years whereas you want to reward some johnny come lately foreigners that have given us nothing?

Odd.

Well in that situation you'd expect the herd to pool resources, but Elephants don't set up political and economic unions with other herds.... LOL

Er.... mine hasn't, and I'm in the default (100% equity) - so not sure where you're getting that argument from.

Juncker didn't appear to use the rats analogy that I can see. That was Guy Verhofstadt. But Juncker was unquestionably referring to the UK when he said "the Brexit heroes of yesterday are now the sad Brexit heroes of today" and "Patriots don’t resign when things get difficult, they stay."

Verhofstadt also appeared to be referring to the UK as well by the way.
