yes, unfortunately, the police do have form on lying under oath

I spoke to a Brummie cop at WBA
no airs and graces
Good 15 mins about general things.
Mentioned palace game at bha
He mentioned what t***s some of the met and some forces are.
Not thinking fans can have a conversation.
He travels around like most police for football.
Maybe Sussex and met are of the same breed.
This just may be a seed change in attitude and behaviour.
I don't think this will end with the apology!!!

The problem with the police getting caught lying is that now it might make it much harder for them to get a prosecution against people who were misbehaving on the night. Everybody loses.

Well they're not going to get many prosecutions if they spend their time kettling real fans with tickets instead of arresting thugs without tickets, are they? Unless Clattenburg has become a magistrate, that is.

Was on a jury earlier in the year with about 50 polis witnesses. We didn't think any of them were lying, but quite a lot of them were so thick they couldn't remember their own names.

I really dont believe this conspiracy theory about ticketless fans either, it would be interesting to find out how many fans actually requested a refund on their match ticket.

I can't help but feel those reports were self serving by the Police and BHA. I would like to see the evidence and the numbers. Probably one of those tiny Swiss Army knives and a sovereign ring.

This was a response to Willo apparently swallowing the nonsense served up from the Police by the media.

So, like Michaela, I smelled a rat early on. Knives and knuckle-dusters my a*se. Why are people so very ready to wade in to our own supporters. Maybe some did get in without tickets by rushing the barriers or maybe they got so frustrated they took matters into their own hands. The whole thing is outrageous, the Police appeared to make sure train loads of people who arrived on time wouldn't make the start of the match. And now they have lost all credibility if they try to explain that away. They were excited by the idea of trouble and let that excitement cloud their judgement. And it happens every time at Brighton, Sussex is a rubbish force and the match day experience is always dreadful.

Having worked for two Forces, I do. You may not be aware of this but there was a case of some lying related to Liverpool supporters in the past.

See this link

Chief Inspector Simon Nelson said it was the worst example of disorder and violent behaviour he had experienced in 12 years as match commander and said away supporters "attempted to enter the ground with pyrotechnics, knives and knuckledusters, which were found following efforts to gain access through fire exit doors in the south stand".

Whereas what we know from posters on this site is that the BHA 'fans' potentially were worse culprits as they were goading the Palace crowd.

I read this as the items were found, not necessarily discovered on people during searches. I could be wrong.

Like I said, it is in the interests of certain groups to point fingers at the away supporters. Especially as it is clear the Police and BHA made a right royal mess of controlling the situation and appear to have irritated all parties not just the guilty.

Just to point out, it was not any old policeman that said knives and knuckledusters were found, as implied in the apology:

“Subsequently, it has been established that no such items were physically recovered at the stadium or in the city. We accept that this information was incorrect and the tweet published earlier today by one of our officers was wrong. Sussex Police apologises to both clubs and their supporters.”

Oh no, it was the Chief Inspector.

Some of those who escorted us for the late train were from Norwich and been brought in the police this. Again another county where f all happens. My experience was the police round the ground and the ones waiting when we got off the train at Brighton were the ones with serious chips on their shoulders

On the posts above, my understanding is people turned up late, Brighton had shut the turnstiles, then fans with tickets rushed to get in and did, and then a Brighton steward opened the fire door and let some people in.

On the general thread, it is staggering how much the police f***ed up, considering the Met must have had some input. They've got regular experience with teams such as Chelsea, Millwall, West Ham and Tottenham, as well as big days like Wembley, smaller derbies, and away teams from elsewhere and the continent, and yet they somehow cocked it up spectacularly.

Palace fans taking knives and knuckle dusters to the cup game can rest assured that they wont be confiscated as it'll look like a plant this time around.

Sussex police admit to telling porkies (pun most definitely intended) about knives and knuckle dusters
Lessons still not learnt from Hillsborough.
I think this clearly proves that the police were the problem and not the fans for any doubters on here
