3 cases last week. I'll ignore the 2 victims carrying guns for a moment and focus on the other who was unarmed but allegedly smoking something. If that's the justification then you've got no chance if you're carrying a gun.

Wonder how many unarmed White people have been shot in the USA this year?. The guy shot this week was armed. Has nothing to do with race but criminality. If you want to wave a gun around then you can expect to be shot. Same as in the UK no matter what colour you are.

Quite a few, the thing they have in common, is generally also being poor and in the wrong area. Anyone who thinks the US doesn't have a problem with guns and policing is in denial. Also of course, in the US, guns are very legal. You can't just shoot people who have a gun in public, as that's legal in many instances. They have also run stories about white families that have had relatives shot, without any public outcry. The common denominator seems to be aggressive policing and poor people. In some ways one cannot always blame the police, as they are confronted with a situation where any routine stop can end in their death: hence their routine use of force. That being said, there seems to be a disproportionate number of cases of non-resistant people being killed. That is what is really damning.

I suppose they're now going to be sexist for charging this woman where many male officers have got off. I don't know whether there's some bias here or whether this one was exceptional in being cut and dry, but too many officers have gotten away with very unreasonable shootings. A very small sample set i.e. the 3 last week, this guy was clearly unarmed. but then so was the carer of the disabled guy shot the other week.

I cannot remember which paper, but it was reported that new policing techniques from about 10 years ago might be partly responsible. I don't know all the details, but the response to a threat was much more cautious in terms of risk to the officer and also much more escalatory. With the poor quality of training in many police forces (largely due to their size, budget, etc.,) it is perhaps no surprise that there might be a link. Throw in lots of guns to the mix, and that makes things worse.
